Hello,

I have run the hijack this and would like to know if there are any problems still lurking about. Norton Antivirus will no longer run full scans - they are pretty much timing out and I am seeing some weird Win32 files.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I am not seeing a lot in this HJT log, but for your benefit, this is what I do see.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jucheck.exe <<< Java is out of date and that is your scheduler. Download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.
Look at the scheduler to see why it is not working, I personally find them buggy and a resourse waster so I turn it off and update manually, but it is important that you do update.

2) C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe

p2p files sharing is dangerous enough without have the program running all of the time on the computer.

Norton issues you would have to take up with Norton/Symantec: http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/index.jsp

HJT can not show everything and there is always the possibility of hidden malware, but you have provided no information that would make me think this is occuring and I have no idea what "weird Win32 files" are.

Hi,

Thank you so much for helping me with this. I updated the Java and tried to disconnect the Ares (if it didn't work I might just have to delete that). I ran another Spybot -S&D scan and got this message:

I "fixed" this problem, but I have noticed that after I reboot and run the Spybot scan it usually appears again. Is this a problem?

Also, how do I remove that Spybot that is a fake program? Can I fix it directly from the HijackThis program? I read over the webpage you gave me and it said not to do anything without getting the steps from you.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe <<< I see you have updated but the Java scheduler is still showing an old update. Check to make sure there are no old versions in Add Remove programs and then if the scheduler is not going to work, turn it off to save resources.

Please follow the directions:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\ <<< delete that folder

I really see no malware in the HJT log, just that rouge program. If you are having no other problems, then do this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
