Hey Guys,

You lot seem pretty darn good at helping people, so here it goes.

A week ago I did a repair on my version of windows, due to a lovely trojan, that I had picked up thanks to my little brother, that re-wrote the boot sector on my HDD and then corrupt certain window core files, so recovered from that and did a windows update as soon as I was able...

...all seemed fine until about 4 days later when I started to get an error on boot saying that c_437.nls file was corrupt and that I should preform a windows repair, well I never got around to doing the windows repair as I found out that on second boot it would load the OS, so I left that issue for the time being...

...that error disappeared yesterday, and I started to get an error window for the following;

"Services and Controller app has encountered a problem and needs to close"

and you know the drill you click don't send error report to MS and you get a 60 second timer before turn off and reset. After some googling I found out that this could be malware so I loaded up all my malware/spyware/torjan/worm and virus butt kicking software to see what I could find, well not much spybot S&D got the most at 10 things one of which appears to be the win32.morlo.ff worm but S&D said it was able to remove this. I believe this got in before I completed updating windows after repair as nothing else has gone on since my little bro.

The syptoms are that it runs rather slowly most of the time, this gets far worse the longer the PC stays on, although I improved this by ending a lot of unknown startup programs (I tend to do a lot of PC repairs and clean out so I tend to know which ones are important) to me. I have tried a few things but I am unable to stop the "Services and Controller app has encountered a problem and needs to close" error box from popping up, this is random and happens are varying amounts of time.

Heres the hijackthis log;

While HJT can certainly not see everything, it sounds like your issues may not be malware related. I do however, see malware in your HJT log, let's remove it:

See this please: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_01\ <<< out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remore Programs.

Many thanks for the reply.

I removed the suggested items, I also ran a few other anti virus/trojan/malware removal tools removed a few bits but nothing too serious and for 3.5 days I survived without a single error box for the dreaded "Services and Controller app has encountered a problem and needs to close" then last night it started up again for no reason that I can see, I was continuing with normal use nothing new (other than anti virus tools etc...) I found out that you can just move the error window to one side of the screen and continue working as normal, but after another few hours another error window pops up (you can imagine how annoying 1 is let alone 2) after much googling I have come to a few possiblities;

1. malware very well hidden - possily rootkit? and suggested use of AVG anti-rootkit to remove heard dewin trojan somewhere?

2. reinfected - re-running anti virus/malware tools

3. corrupt software after windows repair

4. corrupt software after virus removal

after I have finished running this last anit virus tool I will post a new hjt after rebooting, just so you can make sure for me.

If it's clean I'll think about wasting an afternoon repairing windows, and then if that doesn't work I am going to be reformatting and reinstalling (after I finish making my backups) wasting a another day or so...

Any advice or anything that you guys can think of would help me is much needed right now, as my 5th option involves a rather big hammer ;)

Thanks

I apologize, for some reason notifications failed when you posted and I just saw your post in a routine check of open topics. I will review the HJT log you posted and we can go from there if you still have malware issues.

:bigthumb: I see no malware in the HJT log. System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
