problems removing vundo / smitfraud

I've tried to do research on your forums before posting and taking up your time and resources. I've read several posts and tried a few different things to remove the malware on my system to no avail. I still continue to receive messages from PC-cillin firewall and suspicious system activity. I hope I have included most of the info needed. If you could please help I would greatly appreciate it. I caution you that some of these automated fixes can do more harm than good when run on an uninfected computer.

Looks like you are trying to remove a Vundo infection. Vundo appears in the 02 BHO area but the ones that are hard to remove are in the 020 Winlogon because of when they logon as the computer is booting. You have this one yet to remove and there may be others. If you have Vundofix on board, please delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions, those that do have few problems removing this junk.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Wow I see I must have been using an old version of vundofix.exe. After running vundofix and rebooting twice my PC-cillin popped up a recovery notification. Maybe vundo had disabled certain features?

I will make this optional, but I believe since this was a nasty infection, a good scanner should be run.
Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I think I screwed something up or missed a step since I wasn't able to save / acquire a log file from AVG Anti-spy ware.

although it did find adware.Virtumonde and Downloader.Tiny.id
Which were all successfully deleted. No suspicious firewall alerts as of yet.

Sounds good:bigthumb: your HJT log looks to be clean of malware also. I do see one issue to mention.

It appears you have decided to run Trend Micro as your antivirus program, yet you have a Symantec item still running from Services:

I would disable that service, then delete that folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
