General Cleanup

My computers treated me pretty well over the years and I just want to check up on it. I'm running windows xp with service pack 2, 2.5gb of ram, and a 1.99 ghz processor.
One problem i've noticed is that i cannot boot into safe mode:oops:, not sure how that happened or why but it should be fixed. One thing i'd like to note to whoever helps me is that I'm running Bricopacks vista inspirata 2 if it matters.

I can't see anything bad in the hijackthis log but let's run one online scanner.
We'll check that safe mode issue too. Do you get an error message when you try to boot to the safe mode?

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases

Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer

This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

When I try to boot so safe mode, it loads all the necessiary files, then gives me a blue screen of death with a Technical error of

And also I've noticed that whenever my computer trys to go to standby mode it just turns off, i move the mouse press power, and press buttons but it is just off. If i select start, standby it shuts off, or if it's on the power saving option to standby after any time it just turns off. Any ideas?

Ok let's try to fix the safe mode issue first, might be driver related too:


Download avz4en.zip here (http://z-oleg.com/avz4en.zip)
Unzip it to a folder on your desktop
Double click on AVZ.exe
Click on the file tab and then click on System recovery
Put a checkmark next to Restore SafeBoot registry keys
Click on Execute selected operations

Restart the computer and try to boot to the safe mode.

SPTD.sys is related to the Daemon tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc) software. There are some known issues...Uninstalling the Daemon tools will propably help.

Well i had daemon tools and alcohol 52% install once, but i uninstalled them, and it still does not boot to safe mode. mabey they are still in the registry? I also have another problem, instead of going into standby my computer shuts off. If i press start turn off standby then it turns of, or if i set my computer to standby after any amount of time in the power options it just turns off.

I ran the SDTP uninstaller, because i didn't have any virtual drives left, and I did not have any sci/raid controllers. I tried to boot to safe mode and it freezes after loading AGPCGQ.sys, when it freezes my keyboards num lock light turns off and my scanner light blinks once. Crtl alt delete does not bring it back. I have to restart.

Are you sure that you've waited enough?
It is possible that the safe mode takes it's time to load.

Also AGPCGQ.sys is related to your motherboard drivers, updating the drivers could help.

OK that sounds like another driver/software issue. Have you checked the manufacturer's site for any updates? Also have you tried changing the power save settings?

in power saving settings I have my monitor to turn off after 1 hour, and my system to standby after 2 hours. I have an e machines T6212, system standby has worked for me in the past but has stopped working within the past year. Any ideas? I have no idea where I would get the drivers or software to update my motherboard....

wow I think that did it! my screen turns to low power mode the the led turns orange, the computers light blinks instead of a constant beam. one last thing, I'm running ati tray tools, and i have a radeon 1800xt video card. Is there a way to make it shut off it's fans when i go to standby, because the fans are still going when it goes to standby. Thanks alot!

I updated the drivers as well as catalyst Control Center, the fan is still on during standby. Ati Tray Tool is a third party tool, but it's really professional and i love using it and I wouldn't want to use anything else. Any ideas that would fix this without me having to not use ati tray tools?
