I do have two different computers that both came up with viruses. This log is for computer number ONE, I hope it is ok to post the two on the boards at the same time.:

I followed the instructions and ran the various programs. My virus protection software picked up two viruses:

C:\Documentsand settings\... (this area is intentionaly let blank, as it displays my name) ..\Aplicationdata\sun\java\deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\cnte-dhncgts.jar-1974b1c7-73c5eedb.zip<

the two files are the same at the beginning, this is the ending:

BnnnnBa.class>
VannnaaBaa.class>

The virus name displaed as:
Java/ByteVerify!exploit

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Hi jpg5810, without going back to check it seems like this is about the third computer I have helped with recently, where are you getting all of these computers?

If you still need help, start like this.

1) The information you posted indicates a infected Java cache, follow these instructions to clean the cache.
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/virusproblem/howtoclean/cleanjavacache.shtml

2) This: C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe is a rouge spyware product, see this:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
This IS NOT Spybot S&D and I suggest you uninstall the junk.

3) It appears you are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\ISafe.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\

4) We covered this on the first computer: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< BADLY out of date, it will get you infected eventually. Download the newest version and uninstall all old version in Add Remove Programs.

If you still need help, address the above issues, then run the AVG Anti-Spyware program you have onboard using these instructions:
Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165
When that is finished, at the top choose REPORTS and then save the report to your Desktop. Copy/paste the scan results and a new HJT log and I will take another look.

Thanks

Yes, this is the third time you have helped me. The first was back in late May or early June with computer number two. Then I thought I detected a virus on compuer number two, but the Hijack this report log did not show one. This post is for computer number two, which is primarily my kids computer. Both computers are used for own own personal use. We are not a company- we are lucky enough to own two computers.

With all that said, I definately appreciate this site and all the help that we receive, it has been very beneficial.

I am trying to follow the advice from your last post but am having trouble. I consider myself to be fairly computer literate, but I can not figure this one out. I clicked on the first link and these are the instructions:

"To empty the cache folder, access it with Windows Explorer. Select all files and subfolders and then press the "Delete" button on a keyboard, or select the File->Delete menu option. As this folder contains only cached files, no actual data is lost in the operation."

When I open Internet Explorer, I can not find any of these options. Is there a way that you can give me more detailed instructions?

Thanks

OOPS!

"This post is for computer number two"

Actually, this report is for computer number ONE, not two.

This topic is closed, you have only one topic you can access now.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=15919 <<< closed

"To empty the cache folder, access it with Windows Explorer
Please DO NOT confuse Windows Explorer with Internet Explorer, RIGHT click Start then click Explore.

OR Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.

Navigate using Windows Explorer to here:
C:\Documentsand settings\... (this area is intentionaly let blank, as it displays my name) ..\Aplicationdata\sun\java\deployment\cache\ <<< follow the directions in the link to clean the cache folder (do not delete the folder)

Thanks

I am not having much success- ugh!

I went into windows explorer (not internet explorer) and first clicked on folders, then under Documents and settings, clicked on my name, then looked for application data- can not find the application data. Looked in a few other places, just to make sure- no luck. Also clicked on search and searched several ways. I am really puzzled as to why I can not locate this file:

C:\Documentsand settings\... (this area is intentionaly let blank, as it displays my name) ..\Aplicationdata\sun\java\deployment\cache

Any ideas??? What am I doing wrong???

Next I went to delete the spywarewarrior and went through the add/remove programs- no luck, ugh!

Any suggestions? When my anti virus program found the infected java cache, I don't recall deleting it, maybe I did and just don't remember? But, then why would it come up in the hi jack this report?

I am striking out, HELP!

Let's start over, In your first HJT log, I pointed out this to you:

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

I would like you to review the information I posted for you. Here are the two antivirus programs running:

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\ISafe.exe which is eTrust AntiVirus
O23 - Service: CAISafe - Computer Associates International, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\ISafe.exe
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/isafe/

and you are also running:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe
O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe

Start by choosing which antivirus program you wish to run and uninstall the other. When you have completed this and the computer is running one antivirus program, update that program and run a complete system scan. Allow the program to remove anything it finds and post for me the name and location of anything that could not be cleaned or at least quarantined.

Post a new HJT log and that information and we will proceed from there.

Thank you

OK- I deleted one anti virus program, restarted the computer and updated my antivirus program. It did not allow me to delete or quarentine the two infected files. It also does not produce a report for me. I clicked on the hilighted word infected file (the only part it will allow me to click on) and this is what I got (it also will not allow me to copy and paste the file name but it is the same as previously posted):

Description
This is not a virus, but rather a method to exploit a security vulnerability in the Microsoft Virtual Machine. This vulnerability arises as the ByteCode verifier in the Microsoft Virtual machine does not correctly check for the presence of certain malformed code when a Java applet is loaded. Attackers could exploit this vulnerability by creating malicious Java applets and inserting them into web pages. These web pages could be hosted on a site by a malicious web master, or could be sent to users as an attachment. To read more about this issue, and to download the necessary patches, please visit:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-011.mspx
For more information, or for examples of this exploit in action, please see the description of the following malware (found elsewhere in the encyclopedia):
• Java.Shinwow
Note: this detection may be triggered by merely visiting a web page that contains malicious code. It does not necessarily mean your machine has been compromised, nor that your machine is vulnerable to this particular exploit.
-------------------------------------
Removal Instructions
Virus found in the Java™ Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE) cache directory
Malicious applets may be detected in the JRE cache directory by your CA antivirus solution. The default installation path for this directory can be seen below:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1. 0\jar\
These malicious applets are designed to exploit vulnerabilities in the Microsoft VM (for more information on this vulnerability, please see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-011).
For more information on these malicious applets and their use, please visit the Sun Microsystems Java Technology Help Knowledgebase here: http://java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.jsp
Here are the instructions on how to manually remove these malicious applets from the JRE cache directory:
1. From the Start button, click Settings> Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
3. Select the Cache Tab
4. Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory

Follow these instructions carefully to clean your Java cache:
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/virusproblem/howtoclean/cleanjavacache.shtml

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\ <<< delete that folder

Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

Run Clean Manager
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

Post the AVG Anti-Spyware scan report and a new HJT log. Let me know about any malware issues at this point.

Thanks

Ugh! I am just not finding this file C:\Documents and Settings\<user_name>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\

I open windows explorer (right click on start menuw, explore all users). I went through MANY different files and am not locating the file. Also did MANY different searches- still no cache folder.

What am I doing wrong?????

Please view the Google, perhaps something there will help:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=how+to+clean+the+Java+cache&btnG=Google+Search

Finish those instructions and post the requested reports and logs please. Make sure you tell me how the computer is running.

Thanks

I think I figued out what you meant by cleaning the java cache. Is it the same as deleting the temporary internet files? If yes, I did so.

Then I ran the Hijack This and clicked on "do a system scan only", checked the boxes that you sent me (closed all other programs) and the "fix checked".

Next, I followed the instructions
RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\ <<< delete that folder below and I can not locate this file. Looked under programs, ect. Also did a search of all files and the only thing I find close to the listed file is - SpywareBot Scheduled Scan / under the in folder heading is reads C:\WINDOWS\Tasks

Just for the sake of it, I also looked under add/remove programs- can't locate it there either.

What am I doing wrong??????????????:banghead:

Thanks, here is information to help you control those junk cookies if you wish:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 3:16:19 PM, on 7/25/2007
The HJT log is clean. Any other malware isues?

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Some good information for you:
