Search Engine Hijack [Archive] - Safer-Networking Forums

I get diverted when I click on search results in Yahoo or Google. I ran S&D and it found the ZlobDNSChanger trojan - removed it. I've rebooted, run S&D and online scans multiple times and I still have this problem. S&D now shows system to be clean.

Hi Brad, here is what I see from the information you provided.

1) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: ttp://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_02\ <<< your Java version is BADLY outdated, if it has not gotten you infected, it is just a matter of time. Download the newest version, then uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.

3) You have and infected Java cache: infected C:\Documents and Settings\brad.DH\.jpi_cache\jar\1.0\
probably caused by the out of date Java, follow these instructions carefully to clean the cache:

4) Not a lot showing in the HJT log but this item: ZlobDNSChanger trojan has been accociated with Wareout which redirects you, often to porn sites. I see no evidence of the infection, but it can be hidden. Let's hope it was never present and Spybot S&D removed the problem.

What I would like you do do is follow the above instructions, keeping an eye on the computer for any symptoms indicating malware. Then update your antivirus program and run a complete system scan. Update Spybot S&D, make sure you are fully immunized and run a complete scan with it (preferably in safe mode).
If you come back clean, let me know and I will have some good advice to help you stay that way before I close your topic.
