smitfraud virtumonde remains

I've mostly removed the traces of virtumonde and smitfraud using vundo smitfraudfix ccleaner in safe mode. Spybot keeps coming up with bots from time to time as I use my pc. Safe mode scans and fixes work for awhile and then the bots come back.

There is a reappearing rundll startup call:

Etrust online virusscan is clean and gives me no option to save a log.

While we know only to run one antivirus program and one firewall at a time, the jury is still out on how many spyware programs are too many. You may want to investigate your spyware programs to see what might conflict with others.

1) TeaTimer will block changes, follow these instructions to turn it off until you are finished:

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) Adaware2007\aawservice.exe <<< new and I have no information, turn it off until you are finished.

4) superantispyware <<< I have no information for this one either, but you need to turn it off until you finish.

5) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

6) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

7) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Unless you use this Dell junk (I own two Dell's) I suggest you remove it. You can still set any Home Page you wish in Internet Explorer.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

8) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tahwvorw.dll <<< delete that file (this is the bad one)

9) You have this program onboard so:
Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

10) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post those scan results and a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running.

It appears it was teatimer keeping me from getting rid of the last nasty bits. The tahwvorw.dll file was removed long ago but the rundll call kept appearing at startup.

Oops, forgot to mention that I ran AVG anti spyware with the directions from little eagle, but for whatever reason, the save log button is greyed out. :red:

I double checked my settings, but could not save a log. It did find a few cookies but no trojans or hijackers like I had before.

Thanks, it is usually TeaTimer that is causing this as it keeps the junk in the memory. You must also make sure the Resident Shield is deactivated in AVG Anti-Spyware, it will also block the changes. I would appreciate it if you would not post the logs until you are successful, then a last log will probably do it for a final check. We will try this first.

1) AVG Anti-Spyware <<< disable it and the other spyware programs as before

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat: http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat

3) Follow the instruction I posted to run HJT to remove those items.

4) Restart the computer and make sure the junk is gone, reboot once or twice to be sure before you post a new HJT log.

IF this does not work, uninstall Spybot completely from your system, restart the computer and them follow the instructions again to turn off the spyware programs and remove the items with HJT. Once this is done, restart and check a new log, restart at least once to be sure they are gone before posting a new HJT log.

At that point, you may reinstall Spybot S&D.

Sorry for the double HJT posting. I did a scan right after running through the list you set out above and it looked good. The second log was generated after reinstating teatimer and websurfing for a couple hours.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
