Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
1) HJT from TM is out of Beta, please update like this:
Open HJT > Main Menu > Open the Misc Tools section > Scroll down to Check for update online. Choose your download and "Save The File" into the same folder where it is now. You will be asked if you wish to replace the version there, say YES.
2) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, please see this information:

C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< jave is BADLY outdated and as you read, probably why you are infected. Dowload the newest version and Uninstall all old versiong in Add Remove Programs.
combofix did a greate job, but let's run this tool to make sure all Vundo infection is gone:
Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.
Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)
Run Clean Manager
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/
Recap: Post the Vundofix report, the uninstall list, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running now?
Thanks...Phil

The Vundofix report came up clear, the pop-ups are gone, things seem good.
I really, really appreciate you taking your time out to help me with this nuisance. Thank you.

Nice work:bigthumb: and thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I would like to see that Vundofix report if you still have it, if not no biggie. Please remove that Vundofix tool and the Vundofix backups folder from your computer.
Uninstall list: I see no security or malware issues.
Your HJT log is clean of malware also. You may rename HJT if you wish. Let's clean System Restore like this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx
If you want to run a good free trial to check for hidden junk, use this one with these instruction, delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results if you have questions.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165
Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

VundoFix V6.5.6
Checking Java version...
Scan started at 12:34:22 PM 7/19/2007
Listing files found while scanning....
No infected files were found.
Beginning removal...
A couple of questions, I have this Outerinfo folder under All Programs. Is it good, bad, indifferent?
Also, I had a little issue with some adware today (after my last post), I believe. It said I downloaded it somehow oking it without oking it.
Anyway, I'll run the AVG Anti-Spyware you suggested...

Thanks for the check with Vundo, good to know that junk is gone. You can remove that program from your computer, it does not update and must be downloaded new each time.
Outerinfo is bad, part of Purity Scan adware: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PurityScan+adware&btnG=Google+Search
I would uninstall that junk. Let me have a look at your uninstall list to make sure nothing else bad got it with the malware installer:
add/remove in the control panel.
Also, I had a little issue with some adware today (after my last post), I believe. It said I downloaded it somehow oking it without oking it.
PurityScan/OIN could have caused this, we will take a hard look before we are done.
Thanks...Phil

The Outerinfo seems to be gone. I went to the uninstall in the folder and it said something like it had been deleted. So, can I just deleted the rest of it manually? All it shows now is terms. Also, went to the Google search you provided, went here: http://www.spyany.com/program/article_spw_rm_PurityScan.html, followed (manual) instructions and found nothing.

I ran the AVG program, it found 30 sum cookies at medium risk, and a tiny.id downloader at high risk, all of which were deleted. For some reason, though I was unable to save a report. The button was greyed out.

Also, will I need to mess with system restore again now? And with the Vundofix tool, is it just as simple as clicking delete and they're done?

Thanks for the information and the feedback, Uninstall list first:
Viewpoint Media Player
Unless you use this I would uninstall it, see this:

Rest looks ok, a few programs I don't know so check to make sure you do.
Control those junk cookies with this information:

Vundofix: yes, right click and delete it, get it all, backups, etc. If you ever need it (let's hope not) you need to download it fresh.
Thanks...Phil

I deleted Viewpoint.
What are these programs I should be checking? I mean, if you don't know them they sound suspect to me.
For the Vundofix, what is it, just the exe and the log, or is there more?
About the Outerinfo, can I just delete the remains of the folder (terms) and the folder itself, and have faith it's gone?

I would say since it is your computer, there should not be any program running you do not know. There are many, many I don't know but none running on my computers.
Vundofix: sound like you got it all.
Outerinfo, delete any instance you see. You can also try this uninstaller:
