Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I need first to tell you about "deadlines". A volunteer forum, there are no resident helpers, we roam where needed and it can take from an hour or so to four or more days to get an answer, then from a day to weeks at a time to resolve malware issues.
If you have a "deadline" you might be better served with a local technician.

I can say I have looked at the HJT log and this is the only questionable item I can see:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CascSvc.exe
O23 - Service: Casc'ADSL (CascSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\CascSvc.exe
Google does not know it: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=CascSvc.exe&btnG=Google+Search
Nor does CastleCops know the service: http://www.castlecops.com/O23.html
While it may be valid, stuff is added faster than we can keep up, it is the only thing I see. There are other questions but not like this one.
You can expedite this by using one or more of these free online scanners to find our what that file is or you can tell me if you know.

The Trojan is...Trojan.SwfDL.A
I need to know the location of that trojan and the name of the program that identified it.

I have ZoneAlarm firewall running 24,7 so I really don't know how my computer got the virus.
Your firewall is only one piece of good layered protection and from my experience rarely how the infection gets in, they usually get in like this:
http://www.theregister.com/2007/05/11/google_malware_map/
http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/05/the_next_net_th.html
of course that is not the only way it can happen, then once onboard, the hackers do what they wish with your settings, that's why they are call trojans.

Here is the Google on the trojan if you wish to look:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Trojan.SwfDL.A&btnG=Google+Search

If your "deadline" gives you the time to do this at a forum, proceed as I mentioned above, if time does not permit this, please let me know so I can close your topic.

Thanks...Phil

Thanks for your reply.

Bit Defender is the name of the program that identified the virus. Spybot - even ran in safe mode did not id the trojan.

Thanks Ike for the feedback, not a BitDefender user or fan for that matter but many folks swear by it. What opportunites did BD give you, would it not delete the trojan or at least quarantine it? Did it tell you where it was located on your computer, the pathway to it?

Beyond those questions, this information does nothing to change the post I made.

Thanks...Phil

Also, here is the location of the trojan...
C:\Documents and Settings\Ike\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\K741OTI9\sp2-cydoor-728-2[1].swf=>[SWF command] Infected Trojan.SwfDL.A

It could not move the trojan.

C:\Documents and Settings\Ike\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\ <<< you can navigate to both folder I highlited in red and delete the contents. (Do not delete the folders)
There may be files that will not delete but the will be old files, the ones you are after are as recent as the infection. Both Temp and Temp Internet Files are designed to be deleted by their nature.

After you clean out those folder, run clean manager.
Clean Manager: http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

Now run BitDefender again to see what it reports. I am still concerned about the items I could not identify, do you know what they are.

Thanks

I ran cleanmgr as yo suggested now I'm re-running BD. The scan will take a couple of hours so I'll post the result in the morning.

Thanks again for all your help.

I'm hoping giving you a heads up on the length of th BD scan will allow you to better manage you time.

This forum is a BIG help.

Thanks for returning your scan results and your feedback, I apologize:sad: I should have waited until we finished with Kaspersky to have you run your resident antivirus. Please do not post that scan result, I have no need to see it.

Let's see what Kaspersky has to say:
KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Tuesday, July 31, 2007 1:12:57 AM
Number of viruses found: 4
Number of infected objects: 7 / 0

If you wish to scan any item before you delete it here are free online scanners:

I don't use Outlook, I will highlite in red what I think is the infected file. You may scan first before you delete if you wish. Kasperky may see something as infected when it is not, which is the reason for the scanner, but this is VERY rare.

C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender8\Quarantine\artAD9.tmp Infected: Trojan-Proxy.Win32.Xorpix.al skipped
Delete that file out of BD quarantine, it can not hard you there but other scanners will see and report it.

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP256\A0044493.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.PurityScan.be skipped
(System Restore, we will clean these before we finish)

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\blautils.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Crypt.t skipped
a problem, Google does not indentify it, a random named trojan of some kind, delete it.

Once finished, run Kaspersky again, it should only show the one (1) System Restore item.

Thanks

Appears you have not followed directions for removing the bad stuff I posted after the first Kaspersky run. A new one is Killbox backups you must have downloaded and you also have one in your recycle bin now. Empty the recycle bin. The one in BitDefend quarantine is still there. I will post them again and would appreciate it if you will take the time to delete what I ask.

C:\!KillBox\ <<< Delete this folder

I am not sure which files are infected, you should know, it's on your computer. Possibly the html files?

Sorry about that. The virus seems to be gone so something we did was right.

I couldn't remove the C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender8\Quarantine\artAD9.tmp file even is safe mode - In safe mode the file does not appear.

Unless you have a suggestion to remove that particular file, all seems well. I traced it down and removed it from the registry but, it still exists and is viewable in explorer.

Thanks again for all the help.

I may have jumped the gun. I was reviewing our dialog and ran across other files you suggest I remove. See below...

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP256\A0044493.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.PurityScan.be skipped
(System Restore, we will clean these before we finish)

I would say there is no good reason for a trojan to remain on your computer in the BitDefender quarantine folder. Short of uninstalling BD, I suggest you contact: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/partner-benefits.html
for instructions.

If you followed the directions to clean System Restore in this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx

The item you mention in your post #14 can no longer exist.

Thanks
