Computer Running Slow

Hello-

I believe my computer has been infected (running slow) and have not been able to resolve the problem through scanning with AdAware, TrendMicro, Spybot and Defender. I have an HP ze4904us laptop running XP w/SP2. I am also running IE7.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Here's my HJT log after all the scans.

I am not seeing a lot in your HJT log, but I do see this.

C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< Java is BADLY outdated, if you are not infected it is just a matter of time. Download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.

HJT is showing us no malware and you only mention the "Computer Running Slow". I am interested in the results of all the scans you said you ran. What are they telling you? Here are links that may help you with slow.

Fix that Java problem and look at the information I have provided. If you try those suggestions, especially a good cleaning and still have issues, post a new HJT log telling me what your scans are reporting.

Hi-

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I updated java and worked through the suggestions in the links you provided. While I did notice some improvement, there is definately still sluggishness (exhibited in the opening and closing of windows). I did purchase RegCure which found and fixed over 1,000 problems.

After taking the steps suggested in the referred links I ran SpyBot and AdAware. SpyBot found a MS windows security center disabled issue (which is typical every time I run SpyBot) and AdAware found 8 tracking cookies (Log below).

I also ran another HJT log, which follows the AdAware log.

Well, you are in a Spybot S&D forum and I have not requested that an Ad-aware log be posted.

I can tell you those are cookies and The Most Recently Used (MRU) If you do not know how to use Ad-aware, here is a tutorial. It may vary if you updated to the new version.
