Hello,

I noticed today that I have been infected with this. I have researched the forums and tried several things, hijack this, spyware doctor, and the online scan at http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/kws/kavwebscan.htm. Below are my logs as I have not yet gotten rid of it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I will post the kaspersky log as soon as it is done.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you have a very infected computer.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsvcup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswinup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupsvc.exe

http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-13374.html
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100454.htm

You also still are infected with vundo and some trojans I can not even identify.

A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Thanks

Thank you for your response. Being that I have multiple partitions on my HDDs would I be able to simply reformat just the OS one or should I just do them all to be safe?

Not having worked with multiple partitions before, see if the information is in any of these links:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/reformat/
http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/how-tos/reinstall-faq.html
http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm

I'll ask around and post if I get more information.

Thanks

Thanks again for the quick reply. Looking at the log from the Kaspersky scan, it looks like all of the infections are on the C drive and in the restore files of the other drives. If I turn off and back on system restore, that should erase the backup files on the other drive, and all I should have to reformat is the main drive with the OS on it. Let me know what you think. Thanks

A suggestion from another expert in security:
"Well, its kind of a funny call, he has the operating system on his C: partition, the other one or two he may just have games and files stored, on my desktop I have a C and D and use D just for Photos and all the things that I want to back up. If it was me, I would back up to CD, DVD or a External Hard Drive anything he wanted to keep on those partitions and just format the whole damn thing and start over nice and clean"

Hope that helps

Well, I went ahead and reformatted all drives and did a fresh install of windows. I also went ahead and purchased a pro version of ad-aware and installed it so I have one active monitoring service for spyware. SB S&D is installed as well as zone alarm and avg free. So, all should be well now. thanks again for the help.
