Hi,
I have the same problem similar to other users with regards to Virtumonde.O I am getting constant pop ups when using the internet have read similar posts and need help to clean system. Hijack Log is as follows. Thanks guys.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bruce\Desktop\HijackThis.exe <<< move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
When you get it moved, rename HJT.exe, call it semrov.exe or whatever you wish. Restart your computer and post a new HJT log and we should be able to see the infection.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have read the link that you directed me to read and understand the content. As I am a first time visitor to this forum I appreciate any help you guys can assist me with. This computer is so infected i'm at my wits end and am at the stage where a full reformat is not out of the question if needed. I did an AVG scan today and it also reveals a virus called Trojan Horse TR Kolweb.G.2. I installed Hijack This to your instructions and the results are as below. Thanks again!

I will say there are many instances with backdoor trojans, rootkit infections and the like where security is so compromised a reformat is suggested, but in your case these thieves are only after your $$$. They want you to purchase rouge spyware software which is worthless, where I come from they call that fraud. But they break into your computer to do this and where I come from they call that B&E and I have strong opinions about what should be done to them. Here is some information:

I can see in the HJT log that you have used at least one tool in your attempts to remove Vundo, could you mention the tools you used in your next post. What ever you used, you appear to have killed the Vundo, there is more junk and cleaning to do. Please proceed like this:

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

3) The Ad-Aware program you are running is new and I do not know if it will interfer with out removal or not. Please turn it off until you finish.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, and the information I requested, let me know how the computer is running now.

G'Day Bruce, thanks for returning you information and the feedback. Since neither combofix or Vundofix update themselves, please remove those programs from your computer. Make sure you delete any backup or quarantine folders also, Good job with them:bigthumb: and I doubt we will need them, but would want to download fresh if we do.

You HJT log looks fine, I do know folks have been complaining about the new Ad-aware slowing their computers, means I will keep the old version if I continue with them, lot's of turmoil at the top of that company just now:sad: I also see that Java may need any update, manually via Start > Control Panel > Java Console (little coffee cup) Updates Tab > Update now.

If it works for you, let's run a good scan to look for anything missed, it will not remove for us but it will find junk if it is there.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Hi Phil,
Great results from your last post. I have updated the Java Console and visited the recommended sites which I have used to help tweak many suggested areas to help improve performance. My system is running much smoother and has enhanced performance greatly. One thing though, I am unable to complete the Kapersky Online Scanner. Everytime I try to run it I have problems. I accept their licensing agreement which reloads to ask me to instal the Active X control after which it reloads to the licensing agreement page and proceeds no further. Have tried many attempts to try it but same results each time. Will await your next post for further instructions.

I am not sure why that is happening, you are using Internet Explorer? Since you are using a Grisoft program for your antivirus protection, let's give the trial of the recently updated AVG Anti-Spyware program a go. I recently tried the new version on one of my computers and these instructions worked perfectly for me, let me know how they work for you.

1. Download AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/us/frt/0
2. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=asf
3. Save the Installation files to your Desktop
4. Double click the installer on the Desktop
5. Choose the Language using the drop down menu then click OK
6. Recommended that you close all other applications before clicking NEXT
7. Install in the default location: C:\Program Files\Grisoft\Anti-Spyware 7.5
8. Make sure Run AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 is checked then click Finish.
9. Update first then choose "Scan Now"
10. Choose Complete System Scan
11. Total time on a clean computer 1 hr 15 mins
12. Chose Recommended actions and choose Delete or quarantine. You can also choose Ingore if there is something you think may be valid.
13. Click Reports then Save Report as. Save it to your Desktop.
14. Open the Report on the Desktop and click on Edit then Select All.
15. Copy and Paste that information to this topic.

No need to run the scan again, just delete all cookies:

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE: Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
Click the "Delete Cookies" button
Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed): Go to Tools > Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Hi Phil,
I have completed all of your last instructions. My system is running heaps better and there appears to be no more infections since I started this thread. No more annying pop ups and my system is running much faster. I have just purchased a new 500gb HDD and will be transferrring files across to this new hard drive to also help with speed and a full clean instal. I will probably give Vista a go and see how that performs over XP. I believe there is a scan u can perform prior to installing to see if Vista is suitable for my system which I will check out first. Thanks for all your help it truly has made a huge difference I appreciate your efforts and time you have given to me.

I have Windows XP Home and Pro and an old Compaq with Win98SE that I only take out for a drive on an occaisional sunny Sunday. I see Windows 7 (so they call it just now) will be along next so I may skip Vista entirely myself, we will see.
