Nasty little booger.

Everything came out when running spybot in safe mode but my computer still keeps downloading viruses the first time I open internet explorer.

Here is the log from the online virus scan:

Scan Results: 63860 files scanned. 2 viruses were detected.

File Infection Status Path
!update-4395[1].0000 Win32/Clspring.GS deleted C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.nickslaptop\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\F7F008TF\
mljihij.dll Win32/Chisyne!generic cannot cure C:\WINDOWS\system32\

The second file could not be deleted or cured.

Here is my HJT log:

Pingpong,

Welcome to Safer Networking. You do have a few issues going on that we need to address.

Please read this link before you post.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

Its important that HJT reside in its own folder for backup purposes. You can go to C:\Program Files and create a new folder and Name it HJT, then go to where you have HJT on your desktop, cut it and paste it into the new folder you just created.

We have a few things to do, lets do this first.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from either of these two locations

BleepingComputerComboFix (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)
TechSupportForumComboFix (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/combofix.exe)

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a new HJT log please.

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I need to see the Combofix log and a new HJT log with it moved to its own folder please.

Ken

Good Morning,

The reason for renaming HJT is that there are infections written to evade the scan and by renaming it , if you have that infection it will show up in your log as otherwise it may not. You can keep it renamed , it won't hurt anything.

You had a Purity Infection that looks like its now gone :bigthumb:

Run this system cleaner.

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < -- After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp)

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)

I would like you to upload this file for analysis please, let me see the report.

Go to this site Jotti Upload (http://virusscan.jotti.org/) and under the browse feature, browse to this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpvardcg.dll
Then click on upload and it will give you a report, post the report in your next reply.

Its important that you keep your JAVA updated, it will help to keep this garbage from installing.

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 Update 1 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

The rest of your log looks fine:bigthumb: How is your system behaving now??

Ken,

My system is running much better, thanks. It still seems a little slow on reboot, but I haven't rebooted after the changes I made today.

I've uninstalled Java and just need to reboot and install the new.

I had already set all files to not be hidden. Is that not showing?

Here is the scan result from Jotti:

I'm assuming there's a little more to do since a couple of the AV programs found something wrong with that file. What's next?

PingPong,

Lets do this...

If your comfortable with these in your Trusted Zone, then leave them be otherwise fix them with HJT.

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.commodorebank.com <-- I am sure this is ok
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.myspace.com

We need to get rid of a couple of files.

1. Please download The Avenger (http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip) by Swandog46 to your Desktop. Click on Avenger.zip to open the file Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to Delete:
C:\WINDOWS\dls0523pmw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpvardcg.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
Click Done
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

The rest of your log looks fine:bigthumb: Let me see the Avenger Log and one last HJT log and if all is ok I have some free programs for you to install to help keep you more secure.

Ken,

I went ahead and deleted myspace from the trusted sites.

I ran Avenger and got the following logfile:

Logfile of The Avenger version 1, by Swandog46
Running from registry key:
\Registry\Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\xjxeqayh

*******************

Script file located at: \??\C:\Program Files\uoliemav.txt
Script file opened successfully.

Script file read successfully

Backups directory opened successfully at C:\Avenger

*******************

Beginning to process script file:

File C:\WINDOWS\dls0523pmw.exe not found!
Deletion of file C:\WINDOWS\dls0523pmw.exe failed!

Could not process line:
C:\WINDOWS\dls0523pmw.exe
Status: 0xc0000034

I'm guessing we'll have to try the other one again?

File C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpvardcg.dll deleted successfully.

Completed script processing.

*******************

Finished! Terminate.

After running HJT again:

PingPong,

Some user names crack me up, what made you decide on PingPong??

Your log looks fine but I would like you to put yours and my mind at rest and lets make sure this file is gone.

Make sure you still have windows enabled to show all files and folders, right click on Start and go to Explore and look for this file, let me know if its gone.

C:\WINDOWS\dls0523pmw.exe

Ken,

I couldn't find the file anywhere. Thanks so much for all your help. Don't forget, you said you had some free software for me to use.

My username comes from a nickname I got when I used to program Point-of-Sale systems. It's not the most politically correct story, but one of the other programmers gave it to me because she thought it sounded Asian. Before I worked there, they had zero Asian cuisine restaurants. In my first three months I programmed three.

We constantly had people with foreign accents that we couldn't understand calling in and asking for me.

Then I quit and about a year and a half later went to work for her at a restaurant she managed. My nametag didn't say Nick. She made sure it said Pingpong. That was a little over a year ago and it's stuck with me.

Thanks, again!

P.S. I'd like to learn a little more about how to read the HJT (and other) logs so I can try to fix problems like this myself in the future. Do you have any resources to suggest for me?

Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Win Patrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html) This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.

IE-Spyad (http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=6640)
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Firefox 2.0 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Zone Alarm (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7228,00.asp) Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.

I am looking for the tutorial for HJT and will post if for you in a bit.

Thanks for stopping by Safer Networking, I'm glad I was able to help you. :D

Thanks for all the good info and help.

I already had a couple of the programs. I just added the SpywareBlaster, ZoneAlarm, WinPatrol and SpyWare Guard.

I've also switched to FireFox. One question about that:

Can I make it so I can use my touchpad scroller to scroll up and down the pages in FireFox?

PingPong,

Here is a link to the Hijackthis tutorial, please keep in mind not to remove anything on your own because if you remove the wrong entry or entries you can make your system inoperable.

Can I make it so I can use my touchpad scroller to scroll up and down the pages in FireFox? You should be able to do the things you do in IE with Firefox also. I use Firefox on my desktop and laptop computers almost 100% of the time, only use IE when I absolutely have to.

You should run windows updates and download and install all the critical updates that include IE7, its a lot more secure than IE6. Just install any critical updates, do not install any driver files

Open IE and go to Tools> Windows Updates.

Hope this helps,

Ken

You may have to disable any anti virus programs that are running, You have AVG , right click it in the system tray and shut it down. Also if you have any of the programs that I recommended to install , shut them all down also.

Read this. Click on Validate Windows
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/whyValidate.aspx

Let me know if it helped

It helped. I was able to get validated and get that update. Now I'm stuck on the IE7 update. It's doing the same thing. I rebooted, tried again. Shut everything off again and tried AGAIN. Still no go.

Thanks again for all this additional help.

Try downloading it directly instead of getting it through windows updates.
