I opened a link to a zip file from one of my friends on MSN, who clearly has this trojan/virus..Now it's doing the same thing, sending messages via MSN to open zip files..

Here is the result of the online virus scan..

Scan Results: 82232 files scanned. 45 viruses were detected.

hi lily1921,

do you still have the link or zip file? dont click on the link, just write it down and spell out the word dot for the . so its not clickable. something like this: leave off http://

somewherexyz(dot)com

if so you can post it back here, if you have a zip file send it as a attachment in a email to me at:
echoreply(at)hotmail.com

if these are not easily accessable dont worry about it
------------------------------------------
ok on to the log.
first thing is to go out and grab superantispyware. download, install, update Wbut dont scan with it yet. we will run it in safe mode:

superantispyware:
http://www.superantispyware.com/

also check for updates to your antivirus
-------------------------------
scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {30ef587e-1dd2-11b2-975a-818fe31c7eef} - C:\WINDOWS\qvefqvof.dll

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [gf1.0.0.2] C:\WINDOWS\enwzwrcb.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Firewall auto setup]
C:\DOCUME~1\Shannon\LOCALS~1\Temp\winlogon.exe

O21 - SSODL: printers - {BAB30216-0B1F-405E-AD79-20EF09DA8BDD} - notiffy.dll (file missing)
-------------------------------------
time for safe mode, might want to copy/paste the rest of this into notepad and save it so you can read it in safemode:

to get into safe mode: tap the f8 key during a computer restart chose the first option from the list safe mode. once at the safe mode desktop:

to show all files;
FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok
-----------------------------------------------

look here:
C:\Program Files for a folder called:vsxkvetk, the folder looks like it has .dll inside. delete entire folder.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\
and delete these two:
notiffy.dll
printers.exe

look here:
C:\WINDOWS
for this: enwzwrcb.exe and delete that .exe

look here:
C:\WINDOWS
for all those album, images, photos, pictures that the online scan found:
see if you can delete them:

just do the best you can:
next: still in safe mode:
using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself.

----------------------------------
last still in safe mode:
run superantispyware, followed by your antivirus
after the above, reboot computer normally, rescan and post a new hjt log please.

hi lily1921,

ok good. hjt looks ok where you able to find all these:
C:\WINDOWS
for all those album, images, photos, pictures that the online scan found?

i would repeat the f-secure online scan also.

I found all the pictures and albums and such and deleted them. Should I be deleting the files that the F-secure scan didnt remove? I can find most of the ones that it shows on the scan results, and some have been renamed, but shouldnt I delete those too?

hi lily1921,

download and run this first:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-rootkit-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

Should I be deleting these?
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\QMFNNCDM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\QMMJCJAI.EXE

The AVG-rootkit found several items, but doesn't remove them, just renames..Should I be deleting all of this?

Thanks

hi lily1921,

ok thanks for the info. after you run avg there is a option to "save report" if you right click in the results window. can you save/post the report here.
also after the scan if you click on a result you should be able to use the "remove selected item(s)"

are these below what avg found?:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\QMFNNCDM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\QMMJCJAI.EXE

The results from the AVG rootkit were:

Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanmandrv.sys
Description: Hidden driver filePath: C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmmghmca.exe
Description: Hidden application filePath: C:\WINDOWS\system3\lanmandrv.sys
Description: Hidden FilePath: C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanmanwrk.exe
Description: Hidden FilePath: C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmmghmca.exe
Description: Hidden FilePath: C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanmandrv.sys
Description: Hidden driver filePath: C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmmghmca.exe
Description: Hidden application filePath: c:\WINDOWS\system3\lanmandrv.sys
Description: Hidden FilePath: c:\WINDOWS\system32\lanmanwrk.exe
Description: Hidden FilePath: c:\WINDOWS\system32\qmmghmca.exe

But there was no option to delete them from the AVG rootkit...it only gave me the option to rename them. Should I download the AVG antivirus also and run that?

hi,

last time i used avg rootkit it deleted the files. rather than go after these files manually i prefer first to use a commercial rootkit scanner. lets try Sophos scanner. ive never used this one but there is a user manual pdf at there website which you can download and read also:

http://www.sophos.com/products/free-tools/sophos-anti-rootkit.html

hi,

thanks for the info.

Sophos, and it found nothing (my guess is because they were renamed?
i believe so. looks like avg antivirus found some stuff also.

please repeat the f-secure online scan. we want to make sure the rootkits are gone. some people/forums reccommend a reformat of the hard drive after rootkits are found, as they can hide there presence from traditional scanners.
getting late here, wont be back online for 18 or so hours.

hi lily1921,

you are welcome. i think a reformat is a good idea. sometimes its the quickest and best thing to do especially when rootkits are involved. good luck.
