Hello skatfortwozero,

Welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

Go to start -> control panel -> Display properties -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop... -> Web tab, then uncheck and delete everything you find in there (except for "My current home page"),

Also remove the checkmark from the the Lock Desktop Items box if it is checked.
Apply.
Apply and Exit Display properties.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Beta/ComboFix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea

I don't think so.......United States Bend United Communications Inc., OR

Legit

Click Start>Run> Type in (or copy and paste) ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. You'll get a confirmation that the flush was successful.

I want to be clear : You're still being redirected?

skatfortwozero
2007-07-30, 07:14
well, not redirected. i cannot access any websites at all, and it just says server not found. i used to be able to access gmail and myspace, as well as any of the google branches, but i can no longer access any website at all.

Mkay........I've run across this many times in the last few days, and I'm thinking this is the same. I want you to disable Zone Alarm, turn ON XP Firewall and reboot. See if you can get anywhere now.

Hello,

Still having problems?

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

Are you still having connection problems?

Try this if you are:

Go to Start > Run and type cmd
A dos Window will appear.
Type next in the dos window: netsh winsock reset
hit enter.

REBOOT!!

Let me know what's going on, please.:)

Thanks,
tea

every few days the internet stops working and then either running the winsock program or rebooting will make it work again.

Good morning,

I'm just not seeing anything malware related in your logs. We're running in circles here....you're only telling me that you lose internet connection. Do you get any kind of file errors, warnings....anything else that might give a clue?

Also, let's try another scan :

Please go Here to run Panda's ActiveScan. (You must use IE for this one). http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button

A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your State/Providence
Enter your E-mail address and click send.
Select either Home user or Company.

Click the big Scan Now button

* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes)

When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save report and save it to a convenient location (activescan.txt to desktop).

Post the contents of the ActiveScan report, please.

Thanks,
tea

sorry, i think whatever that caused it is gone now. I'm getting reports from my parents and they don't know that much about computers haha. So, i think the problem is fixed, just the dsl is losing sync. I think its all better now, i will open a different thread if the problem arises again. Thanks for your help!

i think i found one thing wrong, however. There computer turns things off to conserve power after awhile, and the Ethernet card under properties had the box checked that said "allow computer to turn device off to conserve power." That would explain them having to restart the computer after the set time, correct?

Yes, you are correct. :bigthumb:
