My computer is grinding to a halt...LITERALLY

My computer is extremely slow and stalling and as of today it's humming/hissing non stop. The problem began when i downloaded a trial version of Adobe photoshop CS3 from Adobe and i realised that all programs were loading slowly. i then uninstalled CS3 and all components but it's even worse now. i'm having error messages popping up. I also suspect a virus or malware but both my anti-virus and spybot gives the pc a clean health.

as far as malware goes, log looks ok.
based on what you said about photoshop, you can try this

go to start>run and type in--> services.msc<--in the list of services that comes up, under the name column look for:
Adobe LM Service

right click on it and select properties.
under the general tab:
make sure that the service status is: Stopped, if not click the Stop button
and the Startup type is: disabled, if not change it to disable
click apply, then ok

reboot computer and see if things improve.

I have stopped and disabled the Adobe LM Service. Things seem fine and having no error popups. Will this process have any effect on my existing Adobe programs or any future instals?

its adobe's product activation service, really its to make sure you have a legit copy of photoshop and not a cracked one. you would think it would have been disabled or removed with the uninstall of photoshop.

shouldnt be any problem with free adobe reader.

with other adobe products it may (the service) get enabled automatically, or you might have to restart the service yourself. if you have any adobe products on your computer now, launch them to make sure theres no problems.

The humming sound is back on and the error messages are popping up when I turned on the printer today. Everything was alright until I turned on the printer

Error message1: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications. Choose "close" to terminate application

Error message 2: The instruction at "0x01115000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.

What do you think is causing this?

i would turn the service back or see that last link below first about apdproxy.exe

When the printer is switched on the adobe lightroom software comes on too and I get the error messages:

shelf life, I think it's fixed now....

I uninstalled my Adobe Lightroom and the Printer altogether. I then removed them from my hard drive, rebooted the pc and I followed the instructions from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767

I reinstalled the printer and the Adobe lightroom. I also renamed apdproxy.exe to something else. I'm not having the problem anymore.

are you getting pop ups or anything? log looks ok. can you post what spybot is finding. after a scan right click in the result window and select copy results. paste the results into notepad and save it, then copy/paste the .txt back here. only need the scan results, not the full report.

that looks like a harmless left over or a false positive in the registry. you can set spybot to ignore reporting it during a scan, dont know how off hand and iam in linux so cant check. if you cant find it i will look next time iam in windows.
