Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
You have some nasty problems, first you have been hacked by lowlifes in the Ukraine:
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.116.156
But this is the one that worries me: c:\windows\system32\mssrv32.exe
http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=Backdoor.Win32.Agent.alm&threatid=125370
Please read that information, because of the Backdoor trojan I believe I should provide you with this information for your security and safety.
A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.
One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:
How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063
Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.
Thanks
I have read all of the information and would like to have a go at repairing this problam rather than trying a full system restore.
I really do not any sensitive information on this PC and it's behind a router.
Can you still help?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, I would be glad to help you remove this junk from your computer. Please read and follow the directions carefully. It will take a few steps, let's start with this:
1) TeaTimer may interfere with the tools we need to use, follow these directions to turn it off until we finish.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.
2) Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.
(hold that report and log until you finish all instructions)
3) Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
Post the report from Fixwareout, the report from SDFix and a new HJT log. We will have more to do.
Thanks...Phil
Phil,
First of all, than you for you quick reply. It is greatly appreciated :)
The report from Fixwareout, the report from SDFix and a new HJT log are pasted below, however some other things appeared that I thought you might want to know about . . .
Upon rebooting the following window appeared:
-Microsoft Windows
The system has recovered from a serious error.
A log of this error has been created.
-----
When clicking on the link to view "...more information about this error..." the following window
appears:
-Microsoft Windows

BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1
-----
When clicking in the link "To view technical information about this error report..." the following
window appears:
-Error Report Contents
The following files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc5a6.dir00\Mini072207-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc5a6.dir00\sysdata.xml
When I looked for those files, they did not exist in the locations listed.
-----
The logs will be posted in anoter reply, as I have exceeded the character limit for a post here...
The 3 logs together combine for a total of 20482 characters so I will have to split this up as well...
Here are the logs (part 1):

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. It's not unusual to get complaints as you remove nasty malware like this, let's finish the cleanup and see how the computer is running.
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\ <<< check your Java program, I believe you have an update available:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
You may remove any of the HP redirects you do not use, you can still set any homepage you wish. They do not make your browser run better.
These are all of the R1 and R0 lines. Check and remove any you do not use.
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Your HJT log looks good besides those issues, SDFix removed the trojan and then more as you can see, and Fixwareout also did it's job. Let me have some feedback now about performance.
I also think it would be good to run another scan to look for hidden junk. Let's run this one.
Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Then post it here.
Thanks
Phil,
Yippie! My wallpaper is back!

Sound like you are making great progess, let's see what Kaspersky has located.
Delete SDFix completely from your computer, Kaspersky is seeing the backups for safety:
C:\SDFix\backups\backups.zip/backups/vhosts.exe Infected: Trojan-Proxy.Win32.Ranky.gg skipped
C:\SDFix\backups\backups.zip ZIP: infected - 1 skipped
6 items are in Recovery in Spybot S&D. Open the program and look for the red cross. Click it and delete any files in recovery.
K:\ Root\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\
One is here, delete it manually, the file highlited in red. If you do not see it, you may need to enable hidden files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
K:\ Root\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\actsetup.dll Infected: Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.hn skipped
Allow plenty of time, and proceed carefully with this part:
This is two files, one in dllcache and one in drivers.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\tcpip.sys Infected: Trojan.Win32.Patched.ad skipped
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys Infected: Trojan.Win32.Patched.ad skipped
Kaspersky skipped these but indicates they are infected. This one worries me because that is a valid Microsoft files: 352 KB (360,448 bytes)
I have those files in those locations on my Windows XP Pro. The file is called a TCP/IP Protocol Driver. We need to replace the infected file. If you want to scan that file first, to make sure it is infected as Kaspersky indicates, you may do so using one or more of these free online scanners.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/
The easiest way I know to replace it is to have Windows do it by running System File Checker. SFC will scan all Windows System files and it will replace any missing or corrupt (infected) files for you. Assuming you have them in backups on your computer, SFC will get them from there, If not it will ask for your Windows XP CD.

14 of these items are in C:\System Volume Information\_restore which I am sure you realize if you System Restore files. They can do you no harm unless you do a system restore. We must make sure the computer is clean before purging the SR files or the new restore point will again be infected.
This must be the last thing you do, if any files are infected, SR will be re-infected:

When you get successfully to this point, your computer should be clean of malware. If you want a final check, run Kaspersky again and post the results. If you run into questions, please post them.
Thanks...Phil
Phil,
Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. Thank you again for your help :) These processes took a long time to complete and I also had a gig last night. I completed all of teh steps and just completed a new scan with kaspersky. It would seem that there is still one mysterious item remaining. Can you help me with this? Also, is there a way to permanently remove all of these items which are listed as skipped/locked? Here is the log:

The items skipped or locked will not be malware. I would be cautious removing them, having said that, if you are the administrator, you can delete anything you want. It might not be wise to do however.
The one item infected is in the System Restore files:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{106CF321-99A3-4E3A-9103-1BD027606A99}\RP30\A0052922.sys Infected: Trojan.Win32.Patched.ad skipped

Phil,
It would seem I am back to a clean state. Everything seems to be working fine and my last KASPERSKY report show 0 infections! Yippie!
Thank you so very much for your help. I believe this thread can be locked now.
Take care,
Kevin :)
