G'day
I've been using spybot and recommended software for a while and the solutions posted on the forums have helped me out of a scrape with some pretty nasty trojans from time to time. However, my pc seems to have a few issues that I can't resolve myself.
I believe it may be registry issues as I am running WinXP Pro and the system blue screens on startup occasionally (not all the time), system freezes every now and then during operation and regularly comes up with ccsvchost memory errors as the system is shutting down.
If you guys could recommend a registry cleaner or suggest some form of action that I may be able to take to correct such issues as all scans with spybot, AVGspyware, Norton Antivirus 2007 and ad-aware 2007 come up clean. Also, problems only really started occuring after I crushed a version of the nurech trojan that used the ist_installkart.exe (or something like that) executable.
Any feedback you can give will be greatly appreciated, thanks :D.

G'day mate, can't say if I can help or not from the limited information you provided. Pinned to the top of the forum and posted above are the instructions. If you receive error messages, I need those "word for word", that is the only way I can research them. Mary things can cause the issues you describe and malware is just one of them.
If all you want is a good free registry cleaner, let me know and I will be glad to post one with instructions for use.

Thanks for replying to my post, I have read the instructions that were posted but my issue is a bit different from standard malware procedure, so I thought I'd ask through the first post in order to see what recommended action was needed in order for you guys to better help me. Thanks for taking the time to do so... as for error messages the blue screening I get I can't help you with because it appears only every now and then when the computer is starting up, flashes for the breifest of instances and then pc auto restarts, so don't know what's going on there. However the close down error I get can be :D.
It's in a window titled "ccSVChost.exe error" and the window reads error at memory location 0x000000 to 0x000005 (or something very similar) memory cannot be "read". all that except for what I put in the brackets is on the error message, I'm not 100% certain if those are the right memory locations either, if it is important to know the exact memory locations please let me know and I can get them :D. The freezing of the pc, however, is extremely few and far between, more of an annoyance then anything.
Once again I thank you for your time, if you cannot help me with the info I provided or cannot suggest what extra info I need to provide then if you could please point me the way to a free reg cleaner that would be sweet :D thank you.

There is always a chance malware is causing the problems, I would read the information and at least post a HJT log, that is my starting point.
Here is the free registry cleaner if you want it, careful what you wish for. The instruction may vary a little because they just updated the program, but it should be fairly straight forward.
VERY IMPORTANT
Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder,
open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program.
Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK.
When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked
and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within
the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything
it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly,
control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything).
In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click
any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen.
Reboot When done.

If you wish to continue looking for possible malware, let's do this:
1) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)
2) Return to :\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename the HJT.exe, call it woodchuck.exe or what ever.
3) You have AVG Anti-Spyware onboard, Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

Hi Phil
Thanks for the info on Java updates, I'll get the download and remove older versions right now. The limewire stuff I know about and am very careful with, thanks for the heads up, thanks also for the codec info, but I'm also very very careful witht hat stuff too, but you can never be too careful :D. As for the keygen, that was something left over from a backup and repair job I did for a friends pc, rest assured, when it asked me to take out the archive I clicked yes :).

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
You may rename HJT this if you wish, I see no Vundo infection.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
