I have read the "Before you post" info and also the other threads dealing with Command Services spyware, but have not been able to fix the problem.

About a week ago I suddenly started getting a message from AOL's SpyZapper, saying that it had blocked Command Services. (This message now appears about 15 times a day.) The computer now crashes periodically, and when it reboots the blue screen will be displayed for about 5 seconds. Then Windows will try to load, but can only be loaded in "Last Known Good Configuartion" mode. No other mode will work. Once Windows has loaded, the message "The system has recovered from a serious error" is displayed.

Other than AOL, no other software has been able to detect Command Services (SpyBot, Ad-Aware, Sypware Blaster, AVG Anti-Spyware, SUPERAnti-spyware and SpyCatcher).

I am using ZoneAlarm firewall and Norton Anti-virus. Windows software is kept up-to-date.

Attached is the HJT log. Thank you for your assistance!

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You may want to contact aohell about this one, beginning to look like it is another of their messups. See what pete44 have to say in #4 of this topic:

I see no evidence of malware in your HJT log. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks...Phil

I read the other post on the thread you provided, uninstalled AOL SpyZapper, rebooted (still got the blue screen and could only restart in "Last Known Good Configuration" mode), ran SpyBot (no spyware detected) and then unchecked Auto Restart in the System Failure section of Control Panel. (I was going to copy the blue screen error code and provide it to you.) To my surprise, the computer restarted normally, so just as a test I went back to Control Panel and rechecked Auto Restart. Then I rebooted and again the computer started normally. Again, no blue screen - yeah!

The only problem is AOL won't start now, but I'll deal with that as a separate issue. This problem with Command Services in AOL isn't an isolated case, so maybe someone else has figured out a resolution to AOL not booting after uninstalling its SpyZapper software.

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it.

I fixed the AOL connectivity issue so I thought I'd post the steps I went through in case it may help someone else with the same problem. I clicked on the AOL icon on the Toolbar, then AOL One-click Fixes, then Repair ACS. This took about 2 minutes, then I had to restart Windows.

AOL now works fine, although after 6 days of work trying to get rid of the Command Services issue I'm far from being ready to sing AOL's praises!

Consider this issue closed. Once again, thank you for your assistance!

Thanks for letting us know how to repair it. Fat chance aol would get on one of my computers but some other poor folks might not know better.
