Hi ^^

In the past two days my laptop has rebooted itself twice. When it happens I get a blue screen with some text on it right before the reboot. I can't read what it says though, it's only there for a second. Both times I was just using Firefox, so it's definitely not because of running demanding tasks like AV scans or anything.

I scanned for malware and viruses, but nothing came up.

I haven't had this problem before, so I'm guessing it's because of some recent changes I made to my laptop? A few days ago I cleaned up my laptop, getting rid of all malware and such, I uninstalled my previous AV program (I had CA Antivirus) and I installed Avast! Antivirus and Outpost Firewall.

I didn't have a Firewall installed before, so maybe Avast! and Outpost are interfering with eachother or something? ^^; I have no idea, really. Any advice is welcome!

This should stop your computer automatically restarting so that you have enough time to read the bluescreen

Note down the information on the bluescreen and then post it as a reply to this topic

Right click on the My Computer icon
Click Properties
Click on Adavnced
Under the Startup and Recovery header, click Settings
Untick Automatically restart
Click OK
Click OK
Now restart your PC

Hi, thanks! I followed your instructions. I wasn't able to read everything on the bluescreen because it scrolled down to the bottom of the text straight away and there wasn't any way to scroll up. This is basically what the bottom said:

Check if all new hardware and software has been installed correctly (and some more text about how to go into safe mode if necessary)

*** STOP: 0x000000C5 (0x203B7377, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8054A0BA)

It happened again just now, this time with a different error message:

Check if there's enough disk space (I've got plenty)

Contact hardware supplier for a BIOS-update, disable Caching and Shadowing

*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x805BF1A3, 0xB9CF2C94, 0x00000000)

This morning the reboot happened 3 times almost straight in a row, one time the bluescreen had some more information on it than usual, this is what it said:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x67617567, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xF460AFE6)

*** FILTNT.SYS - Address F460AFE6 base at F45FD000, DateStamp 442b804f

It was starting to get a bit annoying so I went and uninstalled Outpost Firewall and I haven't had a reboot since. I guess that was the problem? Any idea why? ^^;

It looks like outpost was the cause of the BSODs - I guess it just didn't like some of the other drivers on your system

Comodo is an alternative firewall:

Okay, I'll install that one instead then. ^^ Thank you!
