View Full Version : virtumonde, can't get rid of
I ran the etrust online scanner and it did not find anything. When i run spybot in safe mode it shows ADREVOLVER, ADVERTISING.COM, COREMETRICS, CPX INTERACTIVE, DOUBLE CLICK, FAST CLICK, HIT BOX, AND VIRTUMONDE. I fix items but when i restart Virtumonde remains. Anytime spent online brings back the rest of the infections as well. This is the Hijackthis log. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Safer Networking You have quite an array of malware on this system besides Vundo. This is what I need you to do.
You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)
Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
Scroll down to WinTools for IE service
Double Click that service to open it.
Click on Stop Service.
Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
OK your way out of the program.
Open HJT > Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service
Type in WinToolsSvc
Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.
Delete this folder.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools
Download VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 ) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Download and install Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download)
Download the Trendmicro Hijackthis Installer, follow defauts and it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis and this is exactly where we want it to be.
Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe <--Right click on this icon ( looks like a man with a spyglass ) and rename it to Scanner.exe
Post the log from Vundo and a New HJT log renamed please.
Take your time and follow the instructions, you may want to print it all out. There will still be more to do after this as you have a few other infections that need to be dealt with.
I followed all the instructions, When I scanned for vundo it said it found no infected files. Here is the new log from the updated hijack this.

Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Download SuperAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html)
Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
Close browsers before scanning
Scan for tracking cookies
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
Please leave the others unchecked.
Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
Click close and close again to exit the program.
Please paste that information here for me with a new HijackThis log.

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:

Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 2 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future
The rest of your log looks fine, post a new HJT log and lets make sure nothing has returned and let me know how your system is running now??
I was able to remove the two file but after I slected to show all files I was still unable to find : Winpop and Ebates_moemoneymaker. They are not in the program files folder. I updated java and evrything seems to running perfect now. Thanks for all the help, it is greatly appreciated. Here is the new Log.
