View Full Version : Removing Trojan downloader.generic3.QFH

I need help removing the Trojan downloader.generic3.QFH. I discovered this through an AVG virus scan that I ran after the initial installation of that software.

I have found some files that are infected, but when I instruct AVG to remove the infection, it returns on any new scan, even without a reboot.

The other interesting issue with this trojan is that the infected files don't show-up in the administrator start-up files, only in the start-up files of one of the limited use accounts on the computer.

Here is the log as seen from the administrator account.

When I run the AVG scan, the infection is shown to be in the following paths: C:\Documents and Settings\Rachel\Local Settings\Temp\!update.exe and C:\Documents and Settings\Rachel\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\EHG7Y1I5\!update-439[1].0000.

When logged into the Rachel account, spybot shows the following two start-up items to be infected: C:\Documents and Settings\Rachel\Application Data\?ppPatch\svchost.exe and C:\Program Files\InetGet2\stub_109_4_0_4_0.exe.

The last log file is from the online scan by eTrust Antivirus. As you can see, all of the entries deleted successfully except one. However, I have not repeated the scan since the deletion.

hi iguanasam,

to show all files:
FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok
----------------------
you can do this in safe mode: might want to copy/paste the rest of this into notepad and save it so you can read it in safe mode: to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option from the list: safe mode

once in safe mode:

using explorer (right click start-explore) navigate to:

C:\Documents and Settings\Rachel\Application Data
and delete:
the folder: ?ppPatch (has a svchost inside)

do the same for:
the folder:InetGet2
located here:
C:\Program Files

last:
using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these >>> you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself<< delete what you can

C:\Windows\Temp\ (at the top you can use: Edit>select all File>delete

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (will dump all your cached internet content including cookies)

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

run avg and spybot once while in safe mode.
------------------------
reboot computer normally, rescan and post a new hjt log.

Thanks for joining with me on this quest. I have followed the procedures as you requested. The first glitch is that I could not find a file or folder "InetGet2". The second glitch is that the scan shows the that trojan is still on the system. Thanks again for your help.

Hello Shelf Life,

I seemed to get in too much of a hurry for my last post. After the safe mode scan, AVG did find the trojan still present. However, after rebooting; the new scan shows clean. Sorry! I thought if the safe mode scan was showing it that it was definitely still present.

So, the only glitch to this point is that I did not locate the InetGet2 folder. Here is a hjt log I just made.

I did not find in the control panel any of the items you listed. The AVG scan still shows clean. Below is the latest hjt scan. Thanks for all you are doing to help clean-up my computer.
