Okay, so far, it has taken me about 15 minutes to get registered to this site and getting this up due to the massive amount of popups that I'm receiving...
I'm not exactly computer illiterate but apparently I'm not that great at it either...
If you could perhaps point me in the correct direction to get rid of these ever-so-annoying popups, I would appreciate it very much.

Hello.

Please see the stickied procedure for this forum on how to produce a HJT log: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
Skip the Spybot scan for now, it might help if you can run an on-line anti virus scan however.

Copy and paste the HJT log into this topic, and a helper will assist you as soon as available. :)

Hello darkone1256 and welcome :)

YOu're infected...

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe) (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm (http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm)

NOTE: Do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until I tell you to do so!

Okay so I had to do all the typing and whatnot in notepad in order to get it posted before the popups started...

I'm tired of this.
I did the avg scan but unfortunately the log file got deleated and erased completely...
avg did find and remove 4 objects but i can't recall exactly what it was that was removed...
as for the instructions for removing the C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c001C681.dat
i ran the vundofix 3 or 4 times after reboot in both normal and safe mode
and it was unable to remove it... any other suggestions on how to get rid of it?
Thanks for the help so far, I hope we can get this all figured out soon.

Hello :)

Before we'll continue I would like you to do something for me...
I need you too upload few malware files for further inspection.

Make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Please go here (http://www.uploadmalware.com/) to upload a suspicious file for analysis.
Enter your username from this forum
Copy and paste the link to this thread
Click "Browse" on the 1. field.
Browse to the following file and click the file with your mouse, press "Open"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c001C681.dat

In the comments, please mention that I asked you to upload this file
Click on Send File
Please let me know when you have done this and then we'll get you cleaned :waytogo:

Ok let's remove the bugger...

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from HERE (http://www.sysinternals.com/files/procexpnt.zip)

Please download the Killbox (http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip).
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then boot up in SAFE MODE (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=61)

the rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of __c001C681.dat once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the __c001C681.dat under winlogon click OK.

Also look for any .ini or bak files or other dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of __c001C681.dat then click the kill button.

Also look for any .ini or bak files or reverse named dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well.

Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Select "All Files".

Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c001C681.dat
Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Post a fresh HijackThis log to here

All I have to say for the moment is "HOLY SHIZNIT"
I was able to reply to this post after the "safe mode" cleanup
WITHOUT ANY POPUPS!!!
I was even able to take my time doing it.
I also thought that I should point out that the link you gave me for the Process Explorer was no good... I'm not sure exactly why it didn't work but I was able to get it and run it at any rate.

Here is the latest HiJackThis report

I just wanted to check back and say that I've been on the internet almost constantly surfing for about 15 minutes now and I have yet to get even a single popup.
Even if there is more repair to be done to finish cleaning up. I just wanted to thank you abundantly for the help you've given me!!!:bigthumb:
Is there anywhere I can go to give you a positive referral or anything like that??? I would very much like to take the time to do that.

Hello :)

Ok that's good news.

Fix this leftover with HijackThis:
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c001C681.dat

Restart the computer and post a one more HijackThis log. We'll run one more scan just top be sure..
.
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases

Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer

This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Just a "thank you" is enough for me, thanks :D:

5) Final Run:
Towards the end of a cleanup please make sure you follow through with any final log requested even if it appears to you that your computer is back to normal operation.
As much as we like our members ;) we would rather not see you back in a few weeks because there was no follow up with the helper.
