Okay, I know there has been an issue out there on this subject but being a computer novice I can not seem to fix it.
Running windows XP, Microsoft Outlook 2003, SP2, EI7, Spybot 1.4
As soon I installed spybot, ran and di Imunize my email crapped out, locks up and runs supper slow - Outlook pegs the CPU - nothing else runs until it calms down, take a minute or two.
I tried to remove spybot completely, this did not help.
I read one solution was to dis-enable the imunize but i don't how to do this, can't find an option to shut it off.
Any ideas of what to do and detailed on how, thanks
Bill
:sad:
Open Spybot; click on Immunize; click on Undo. That should do it. You may also want to go to Internet Options from the Control Panel and see if there are any remaining sites in the Restricted Zone, possibly placed there from other programs or manual entry.

That was easy, looks like it fixed the problem, time will tell thanks so much!
:)
Is this issue going to be fixable in version 1.5? or is this more of a microsoft problem? Just curious, I hate turning immunization off. I was able to fix the problem by undoing and then re-immunizing, but that doesn't seem to work any more, so I have immunization off.
Thanks for a reply!

Hello,
We are sorry, but this is a Microsoft bug.
We have already contacted them to fix it.
Spybot - Search & Destroy adds sites to the restricted zones during the immunization.
The outlook programm is proving every entry that is added to the restricted zones, so this is causing a hang of the software. We hope to solve this problem soon.

The problem is a Microsoft issue, not a Spybot issue. See the following synopsis by Jim Eshelman at AumHa:
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?p=151711#151711
Besides the workarounds in the above article, the problem appears to be mitigated by the addition of the following registry entry if you are using outlook.exe:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MIME_SNIFFING]
"outlook.exe"=dword:00000001
If you are using winmail.exe, try adding the following registry entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MIME_SNIFFING]
"winmail.exe"=dword:00000001

Is there still a good reason to use Spybot and run it periodically even though immunization is turned off?

billy bronco:
Certainly. Actually there is more of a reason to run Spybot periodically because with immunization turned off you are more susceptible to infection.
Please consider adding the registry I published, immunizing again and see if the slowness is gone.
