Trojan.W32.Looksky??

SpyBot S&D reported several items and is now clear.

I am reluctant to connect online again in fear of sending infectious content via e-mail or whatever.

TrojanHunter (Evaluation) found and purportedly cleaned several files. Every scan no shows NewMediaCodec.100 and when "Cleaned" SpyBot pops up a Change to Registry (wmpconf) dialog with graphic buttons that seem corrupt - I can only "x" out of the pop up. As econd appears for wmpenv.

AVG Anti Spyware shows clean.

Ad-Aware initially found several critical items - reports clean now.

Avast! Professional AV found NOTHING initially and still reports clean.

SpyWare Guard noted NOTHING and stills says OK.

Spyware Doctor initially showed several infected files and although now reports clean, "Attention Required" shows on the main screen.

Current problem:
A "Spyware Alert" pop-up identifies Trojan.W32.Looksky as being detected. "Windows Security Alert" says "Windows has detected an Internet attack attempt..." I am disconnected now, but something is trying to launch IE to www . safewebnavigate . com. My walpaper appears to be one huge link button with graphics of the biohazard symbol. Three shortcuts appear on my desktop: "Error Cleaner", "Privacy Protector" & "Spyware & Protection" Before I had disconnected, it looked like these links were going to some site selling products to prevent exactly what they had just done to my machine.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Upon connecting up, SpywareDoctor updated and I was able to clean some junk. The app pops up every minute blocking an attempt and modifying ...\duocore.dll

A dialog with the title bar "Spybot - Search & Destroy" pops up repeatedly with a registry entry change attempt for the entry "wmpenv" Closing the dialog with the "x" (because the button text appears to be corrupt) causes an instantaneous "Resident" message in the lower right corner denying the Registry change attempt.

Your spyware programs may interfere with the tool we are about to run, please turn them off like this:

1) TeaTimer: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) TrojanHunter Guard
Disable TrojanHunter Guard by right clicking on the icon in your System Tray.
Make sure that the program, TrojanHunter itself, is also closed/not running.

4) Spyware Doctor
From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

** I want to take a monment to mention that we know only to run one antivirus program and one firewall at a time. The jury is still out on how many Spyware programs are too many. I think you should consider this.

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running now.

1. Can't "remove" rogue Spyware, "unable to disable Service." Sorry, I don't know how to turn off, or disable the service mentioned.

1) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to SpywareBot Scanning Engine and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

If you want to delete the service from your computer, try this:
Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (SpywareBotSrv) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.
