Dear Spybot,

Although I deeply appreciate that SB S&D is able to Disable a lot of spyware etc., I wish it was able to permanently remove them as well. What can I do to get rid of whatever it is that keeps loading ABetterInternet or TagASaurus or Omniture on my computer? Each time I boot up, I have to go through at least an hour of debugging before I can start surfing. In fact, many times even after SP S&D has disabled them, I have to rescan because one or more has reloaded or reinstalled itself.

Can you help me? If not, who or what can?

Hi billyscotth

Click here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe) to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi

I see nothing wrong there.

Please post a spybot report here next :)

Here is the SpyBot S&D report and below is another Hijack report for your review. Although normally SpyBot detects "ABetterInternet" a lot, it didn't the past couple of times but I know it will show it's head again soon. Although SpyBot is great abuot detecting and temporarily disabling these and others, why do they constantly come back again and again and again?

Also, my Norton Interenet Security usually notifys me that "iexplorer.exe" is trying to connect to a _____ server. I think it says a DNA or something like that. Is this a tracking software also? Possbly imbeded in my explorer?

Hi

"Although normally SpyBot detects "ABetterInternet" a lot, it didn't the past couple of times but I know it will show it's head again soon. Although SpyBot is great abuot detecting and temporarily disabling these and others, why do they constantly come back again and again and again?"

They are so called tracking cookies and their coming depends on browser settings

More here (http://www.spybot.info/en/faq/37.html) how to prevent them coming.

"Also, my Norton Interenet Security usually notifys me that "iexplorer.exe" is trying to connect to a _____ server. I think it says a DNA or something like that. Is this a tracking software also? Possbly imbeded in my explorer?"

Any more specific info (word by word)?

Here is the main one (see below) I was talking about. It along with the others are constantly comming back again and again. I have to do 3-6 spybot S&D's / day and it takes forever to deal with. I looked at the link you left to change Explorer Security Options and most were already as described with the exception of "third party Cookies" which I changed. But i dont think this is going to be the fix all. I"m convinced that there is some virus or other malware that is continuing to load these cookies/ adware from my computer at random intervals. What do you think and how can I deal with it?

I wasn't able to get the Norton language you asked for just yet but when I do I will post.

Hi

"I"m convinced that there is some virus or other malware that is continuing to load these cookies/ adware from my computer at random intervals. What do you think and how can I deal with it?"

No, any virus doesn't load them. They come when you surf
on internet. Those settings above should prevent them coming. If not, I can give you some further advice. And tracking cookies are pretty harmless, too.

ABetterInternet: Autorun settings (LXBXCATS) (Registry value, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\LXBXCATS

That entry is related to lexmark and false positive.

You may want to report it here (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=16)

Here's another entry related lexmark:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lxbxmon.exe] "C:\Program Files\Lexmark 7100 Series\lxbxmon.exe"

Hello,

You seem to be using a dated version of Spybot-S&D.
Please download our current version Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4. That should fix it.
You will find links to several download locations for this new version on our web site:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Please search for new updates after installing Spybot-S&D 1.4.

Best regards

"No, any virus doesn't load them. They come when you surf

The settings didn't do it. Just booting up my computer in the morning loads them because I dont even need to open Explorer and S.B. will detect them. Then without surfing, if I simply wait till later in the day, many times some will have re-activated themselves.

ABetterInternet: Autorun settings (LXBXCATS) (Registry value, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\LXBXCATS

"That entry is related to lexmark and false positive."

Dont know what a false positive is as far as cookies go, but if it's something that is collecting data from my computer or my surfing habbits, I dont want it around. Especially if it's going to effect the performance of my computer. As for it having something to do with "Lexmark", is that good or bad? Although I have a Lexmark printer, I have NEVER seen "ABetterInternet" pop up before except for recently.

You may want to report it here (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=16)

Here's another entry related lexmark:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lxbxmon.exe] "C:\Program Files\Lexmark 7100 Series\lxbxmon.exe"

I haven't see this one.

Hi billyscotth and thanks spybotsandra :)

"I haven't see this one."

Do you mean that spybot doesn't find it anymore?

It was a false positive that was fixed.
