My PC is infected with the virtumonde spyware which I haven't been able to get rid of. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :)

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

For some reason? You posted the bottom 1/2 of a HJT log after the Kaspersky scan? Any objections if I edit that out?

Kaspersky is showing a Vundo infection, you also have infected System Restore files we will clean later so we onbly have to do it once. These:
C:\RECYCLER\ <<< are your Recycle Bin, right click it on the Desktop and choose "Empty Recycle Bin" and OK.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks

Yes, I do understand that 'All advice given is taken at your own risk.'

I'm trying to get my machine clean without reinstalling everything, but I am prepared to reinstall if necessary. That's probably why there was a lot of stuff in my recycling bin, I've been backing up all my data files and getting rid of old stuff. You can edit out the partial HJT log from the 1st entry. I guess I got copy/paste crazy.

I've run the VundoFix.exe and here are the requested logs:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, some cleaning to do but first, let's let combofix have a look.

1) C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\HijackThis v1.99.1\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
Delete that old version of HJT from your computer.

2) Once it is gone, then download this self-installer from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe
and just follow the prompts.

3) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Thanks

Good job, you also had a PurityScan/OIN infection, please also read this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ BADLY outdated and likely the reason you are infected. Download the newest version of Java and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

Let's look at your Uninstall list:

Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you set this first one on purpose, you can leave it)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmkhe - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhe.dll (file missing)
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - C:\Program Files\Common Files\prohdyx.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\prohdyx.html <<< delete that file

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

OK, I've done the following tasks:

1) Updated my Jave RE and removed the old version
2) Saved the uninstall list from HJT minus some updates etc. (see below)
3) Fixed the items you mentioned in HJT
4) Deleted prohdyx.html
5) Ran ATF Cleaner
6) Rebooted and had HJT rescan and produce a new log file (see below)

My computer does seem to be running much better! Thanks! :)

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, let's see the uninstall list first:

Uninstall list

Unless you use it, I would uninstall it.

I looked for security issues and malware and saw none, good chance for you to look for stuff you no longer use.

Your HJT log also looks clean of malware:bigthumb: this is what I would like you to do.

Remove combofix, make sure the qoobox/quarantine is deleted also, and remove Vundofix and the vundofix backups. Then run a new scan with Kaspersky using these instructions:

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Saturday, August 18, 2007 5:43:35 PM

Number of infected objects: 8

C:\System Volume Information\ (System Restore files) 5

And here is why we ran it, make sure hidden files and folders are enabled or you probably won't fine these, then navigate to them and delete them.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ASRCGUTP.0XE <<< delete
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CWHCJSBQ.0XE <<< delete
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmgeeydo.exe.bak <<< delete

Restart the computer so the change can go into effect, and then do this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
