I am trying to fix my parent's computer and have no success. I have run Ad Aware, Spy Bot (safe mode and normal), Norton Anti Virus, Kaspersky Online Scan, Trend online Scan, ATF Cleaner, and still no resolution. Each one finds malware and deletes it except for web buying assistant. Please help.

Thanks for returning your information, looks like combofix got most of it but I see a 024 item that indicates there may be another infection. Follow these instructions to find out.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you ran the Smitfraudfix search twice, but it found nothing, please delete that tool from your computer.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\profsydyrapr.html <<< delete that file

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Remove comboxfix completely from your computer, make sure you delete the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder also.

Once that is done, then run Kaspersky according to these instructions:

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here along with a new HJT log.

I could not find the C:\Program Files\Windows NT\profsydyrapr.html file. The only thing in that directory was two folders (accessories and pinball) and one file (lavupaxoq).

I followed all other directions and here are my log files.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Before I look at the logs, this item:
lavupaxoq (you did not tell me if it is .exe or what?) does not identify with Google so it is likely bad. Accessories and pinball belong in that folder and are in mine also.
Use one or more as needed of these free online scanners to find out what that is:

http://www.virustotal.com/
If it scans as bad, delete it.

Open Spybot S&D then click the white case with the red X, delete the contents.

This one is still on your computer, go to the folder I highlit in red and delete all of the contents. A few old files may not delete but you can see that item.

I did everything you said and things seem to be going well. The lavupaxoq file had no extension. I deleted it.

I am still getting webbuyingassistant on my spybot scan should I worry?

The details under it says:

user settings
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\WebBuying registry key

Make sure your version of Spybot is completely updated and totally immunized, then run it in Safe Mode according to the directions here:

Post a link to that topic so I can see what they say, since nothing else is seeing it, may be a false positive?
