Hi Everyone.

This is my first time using the spybot forums, so please let me know if I leave anything out.

I am in the process of trying to download spybot search and destroy 1.4 but I am having some difficulty.

When I download and install the program, it will not run.

I get a message stating: "Windows is searching for the file spybotsd.exe."

When I conduct a search on my computer, I can not locate this file.

Any advise on how to properly download/install spybot?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Please try the direct installation file:
http://ftp.freenet.de/pub/filepilot/windows/security/spybot/spybotsd14.exe
Please search for new updates after installing Spybot-S&D 1.4.

Best regards

Ok, I just installed the file you linked, but again, when I try to "run" search and destroy it states, "Windows is searching for SpybotSD.exe. To locate the file yourself, click Browse."

Is it possible that I am already infected?

Hello,

Do you have selected to save the file on disk? Please don't choose to open the file as a download option because you cannot install it through the Internet.
Further please do not save it as a temp file - put it in a permanent folder.

If you did this we would ask you to create a Spybot - Search & Destroy system report to see whether there is some new spyware that especially targets Spybot - Search & Destroy (there has been malware removing anti-spyware products in the past). In this case, we may need to utilize a different tool to find out if there is some pest that did this, and if so where it is exactly. Please download HijackThis: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Follow the instructions on that tutorial page to create a log. Please mail that log to our detectives at detections(at)spybot.info. Make sure the subject is clear; we're currently collecting reports on this threat, so we suggest you start the subject with [Spybot Attacked]. Thanks a lot for your help, and we promise to find this one asap!

Best regards
