Stubborn Smitfraud infection

Hello everyone!

I'm a pc technician and am new to the forum. Today's problem is a laptop that was seriously infected with well over 200 viruses. I've cleaned all the others off successfully, but I am unable to get this damn smitfraud removed! I have read the guides and am in need of recommendations. I've already ran the latest version of Hijack and have removed ones that I knew were bad. Anything left over I'm uneasy with removing and would like some help. I really don't want to have to format this person's laptop Here is the hijack this log. Any help would be greately appreciated as always :cool:

Also, I have ran Spybot, Hijack this, Vundofix, VirtumundoBeGone, SmitfraudFix, CWShredder and Avast a few times to clean off whatever else I can. The laptop currently being scanned by NOD32's free online scanner eset.com/onlinescan and so far has 1 infection found. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for your timely response! I assure you, I am merely here for recommendations and some guidance on removing smitfraud. I would not abuse this forum or its members in any way, shape or form. :bigthumb:

Ahh, see I was worried about removing those two files:

wmphost.dll, wmpdev.dll

As I feared that they were associated with Windows Media Player due to their abbreviated names and none of my programs were picking them up as smitfraud.

I attempted to remove those entries you mentioned in Hijackthis! which I put in its own folder on the root of the drive and was unsuccessful in removing them.

I then downloaded and ran the latest version of smitfraudfix (I was totally unaware that they had updated it) twice in normal mode, on account of safe mode is inaccessible on this computer due to a blue screen and the infection seems to be gone. I am running further checks afterwards to ensure it's gone, but it seems that the latest version of smitfraudfix did the trick.

Thanks also for the java update recommendation. I wasn't aware of how old a version they were running and will take your suggestion and update it.

Thanks again for your help. I've been running the system for several hours now and have yet to experience any more smitfraud-like activity. That would be great though, if you could give the last HijackThis! log a quick glancing over. I only gave it a quick glance myself, so I might have missed something but it seems to be clean now.

Since this computer had a nasty infection, if you have not cleaned the System Restore files, I suggest this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
