I have read the other threads about this problem but every one has a similar but different solution and I am not comfortable "fixing" things unless I am sure. I also know I have several viruses but my virus detectors shut down upon detecting them. I can't even access the infected files (4ter4hur) via the "search" function without DEP shutdown. In fact, if I do a search for all .jpg and .mpg files, the search shuts down. I believe the zlob infection may be the key. I need help. Here is my HijackThis log:

try running your av in safe mode. to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option from the list--safe mode. you might do this also, might want to copy/paste this into notepad so you can read it in safe mode:

using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself.

a DOS shell will open, at the prompt type in:

nslookup > .txt (space after each)
it will put a .txt file, usually here:

download, install update, follow the install prompts:

a online scan wouldnt be bad either:

Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a current HijackThis log.

I'm not sure what was supposed to happen with the 'nslookup' instruction but it dumped me into a blank line.

Ran superantispyware and came up clean.

hi philbo,

ok thanks for the info. looks like f-secure only found stuff that was in
NORTON ANTIVIRUS\QUARANTINE, which is good. anything in quarantine is harmless.

run the wareout fix:
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Much faster than it was a few days ago. I've run every virus/security program I have the past 2 days and the only one that turns up anything is AdAware, mostly cookies and 3-rated adware.

Thanks for your help. I feel safe and secure again.

ok good. cookies aren't much to be worried about. you might want to know how you get "stuff" in the first place, this way you can avoid it to begin with. see first link below.
