I have been infected by smitfraud. I was unable to run the Kaspersky Online Scanner. Spybot ran in safe mode and cleaned everything there. The HJT log is included below. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Your HJT log is showing nothing and you have not provided any information. What program is telling you about a Smitfraud infection? What symptoms are occuring? Any error messages?

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

Smitfraud was originally detected by spybot, and I was getting multiple pop-ups (20-30) every time I tried to navigate to a web page. I ran spybot in safe mode & it showed smitfraud as cleaned. The pop-ups went away, so I stopped there. Now I am having difficulty getting to web pages at all. IE gives me a message that the web page cannot be displayed. I have to refresh the screen 5-10 times for each screen. Also, links do not work. I have checked connectivity and it appears to be good. Anyway, heres the rapport file. Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks for the feedback, the Smitfraudifx shows nothing. Chances are Spybot S&D removed the problem for you.
When you post an error message it must be word for word for me to research it. Like
"the web page cannot be displayed" returns:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+the+web+page+cannot+be+displayed&btnG=Search
Have a look at this information to see if it helps:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/IEtopten.mspx

I was unable to run the Kaspersky Online Scanner. Why could you not run Kaspersky? I need more information if it is malware, without a scan result or any evidence in the HJT, and a cleam Smitfraudfix report, I am flying blind.

Please remove Smitfraudfix from your computer.

Let's have combofix take a look, it may spot something for us.
Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Thanks

The Kaspersky site will not run the ActiveX control to install the program. After approx. 10 minutes of trying I get the message "failed to load Kaspersky Online Scanner ActiveX control. You must have administrative rights and have IE security settings set to medium" I have done both of these things as well as disable my firewall, and turn off the phishing filter and pop-up blocker in IE. Don't know what else to do. By the way, each time I try this I do click the message and allow the ActiveX control to be installed.

Here's the ComboFix log:

Here's the HJT Log. I appreciate the link to the IE fixes. You may be right; maybe spybot got it all. If so, I'll make sure I have everything set correctly in IE. Just wanted an opinion that is much more informed than my own. Thanks for all your help.

Here's the 2nd HJT log:

Thanks for the feedback, combofix found one item that should not have been there. I am not sure why you can not run ActiveX, must be how you have the settings.
I should point out I can't run that scan either because of how my ActiveX is set.

I see you are running AVG by Grisoft, be sure you are running version 7.5 and download the newest updates. Run a complete system scan and let me know about anything located that can not be removed.

You can remove combofix from your computer, delete the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine folder also.

Let's clean a little:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(not malware, just leftover junk)

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1BB22D38-A411-4B13-A746-C2A4F4EC7344} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZK

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run Clean Manager

All done. AVG scan was clean - no threats, no errors. AVG runs every night. Test history shows threats found periodically, but all have been removed. I have never been notified by AVG about a threat that could not be deleted. The Smitfraud detection by spybot is the only instance I have ever encountered where the threat could not be fixed when it was first discovered.

I am not saying it is the case with you, but the reason this happens most often is Spybot S&D is not kept updated and fully immunized.

I'd be lying if I said I update spybot every day. And I have 2 teenage kids that ARE on the internet every day. Looks like I'll have to be a little more diligent. Thanks for your time, advice, and information.

By the way, I went through the information in the article "how to fix the top 10 internet explorer issues" and things are much improved. I will work my way through the rest of the info you recommended as well. Thanks again.
