Spybot has not been able to remove Command Service, even after repeated scans and rebooting. After reading other entries, I downloaded and ran hijackthis. Here is the report:

Hi kiralynn and Welcome :)

First, could you please attach a copy of the Spybot log? That will help us determine what it is finding and having a problem with exactly.

Also, please make sure you are using the latest version (Spybot v. 1.4) with the latest updates (Jan 13 2006).

There are some other items showing in your HijackThis log that it should have caught. If you are running the latest version with the Jan 13th updates, and you are still having a problem, please post a fresh HijackThis log so I can recommend fixes needed.

I'll get an automatic notice from the board when you reply to this thread so I can get back here quickly to assist.

I'm sorry I didn't include more information in my first post. I have been getting a lot of pop-ups, and my computer seems to be running slow. I have McAfee Virus scan, AdAware ,Spybot, and Hijack this, and have been running them and updating them frequently since I first noticed the problems.
Spybot finds, among other things, Command Service and Hyperlinker, but cannot fix them. It asks to scan again on a reboot, and in this scan, it usually fixes Hyperlinker, but not Command Service.

Here is the results report from Spybot after I rebooted.

Hyperlinker: Settings (Registry key, fixed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QL

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdService

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdService

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\cmdService

Thanks for the Spybot log. I also need the HijackThis log. I think you inadvertently posted a dupe of the Spybot log instead of a fresh Hijackthis log

Thank you :)

1. First, Please download this free tool called Suspicious File Packer
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip

Unzip the zip and save to your desktop

Doubleclick on sfp.exe

Copy then paste the list below into it and hit continue.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pgws.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\igps.exe
C:\WINDOWS\0wso0fis.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\0wso0fis.dll
C:\windows\adtech2006a.exe
C:\Program Files\QL\qlink32.dll
C:\Program Files\QL

That will create an archive of files on your desktop called: requested-file....(name is longer but starts with that)

and that "requested-file" archive is what I want you to send by email to me (by clicking this link) {Edit: email addy removed as no longer needed}
so I can submit to the Spybot team for analysis. Just attach the file to the email and put in the subject line: From Kiralynn at Spybot Forum

2. Please make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files:
How to Show Hidden Files
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
............................
Windows XP
Click Start.

Open My Computer.

Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

Click Yes to confirm.

Click OK.

3. Make a copy or print out these instructions from here on down so that you have them handy (we'll be having your close IE so you won't be able to read from this forum)

Close IE and any open windows so that only Hijackthis will be open.

Scan only with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to each of the following and then press the *fix checked* button:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank

After scanned, checked, and fixed, but before I rebooted, I got multiple popups from TeaTimer:

1/17/2006 4:45:18 PM Allowed value "Search Bar" (new data: "") deleted in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:45:32 PM Allowed value "lspins" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:45:34 PM Allowed value "0wso0fis.dll" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:45:36 PM Allowed value "adtech2006" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:46:00 PM Denied value "lspins" (new data: ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\igps.exe"") added in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:46:07 PM Denied value "lspins" (new data: ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\igps.exe"") added in System Startup global entry!

This last pop up I kept getting over and over, so I chose to remember the choice, and but it still gave me a notification every second, maybe 50 times until I rebooted.

Aftr I rebooted, this is what teatimer did:

1/17/2006 4:49:16 PM Allowed value "SunJavaUpdateSched" (new data: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe") changed in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:49:24 PM Allowed value "0wso0fis.dll" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:49:24 PM Allowed value "enewsletterpro" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:49:29 PM Allowed value "adtech2006" (new data: "") deleted in System Startup global entry!
1/17/2006 4:49:34 PM Allowed value "ITBarLayout" (new data: "") deleted in User-specific browser toolbar!
1/17/2006 4:49:34 PM Allowed value "Search Page" (new data: "www.google.com") changed in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:49:36 PM Allowed value "Search Bar" (new data: "") deleted in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:49:36 PM Allowed value "Start Page" (new data: "http://www.gmail.com/") changed in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:49:36 PM Allowed value "Default_Search_URL" (new data: "www.google.com") changed in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:49:36 PM Allowed value "Search Page" (new data: "www.google.com") changed in Browser page!
1/17/2006 4:49:36 PM Allowed value "SearchAssistant" (new data: "www.google.com") changed in Browser page!

Most of those are remembered choice. Should I clear them?

Thanks,
Kira

Ok, teatimer is blocking the fixes. We need to temporarily disable that while making the changes needed.

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

Copy these instructions, because we need to do these next steps in safe mode

Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

You may want to print out these instructions to follow regarding booting into safe mode so you can get back into normal mode when we're done fixing.

How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Save a copy of these instructions as well, so you can follow these steps once in safe mode.

Then Scan with HijackThis and checkmark these entries.

O2 - BHO: LinkTracker Class - {8B6DA27E-7F64-4694-8F8F-DC87AB8C6B22} - C:\Program Files\QL\qlink32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lspins] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\igps.exe"

O18 - Filter: text/html - {3551784B-E99A-474f-B782-3EC814442918} - C:\Program Files\QL\qlink32.dll

Delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\igps.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pgws.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\0wso0fis.dll

C:\windows\adtech2006a.exe

Delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\QL

While you're still in safe mode, run Spybot and have it check for problems (scan) your PC. When it finishes fix any items found listed in red.

Then reboot your PC once more back into normal mode. Scan again with Hijackthis and post a fresh please :)

Good Job, Kira!!! :bigthumb:

That log looks clean :)

Now you can go back into Spybot and re-enable your Teatimer.

Now that your PC is clean, make sure all programs are running properly and then you'll need to reset your restore point in Windows XP.......why?

One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after malware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

Next, I highly recommend you get some extra protection to prevent future infections. Here are some things you can do and some free programs to help :).
So how did I get infected in the first place?

I'm happy to see you have SP2 installed. That will address numerous security issues in your Operating System and IE
Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. This is the first step in malware prevention, as many nasties now take advantage of new exploits and if not patched, you are vulnerable!
Windows Update

And see this link for instructions on how to configure the enhanced security features in SP2:

I also highly recommend to get the free tool, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) from Microsoft to analyze your PC security for prevention purposes.

MBSA Version 2.0 will scan for common system misconfigurations on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems. This program will identify the system security weaknesses in your browser and operating system and provides easy instructions to correct them. This includes any missing critical Windows security updates, system vulnerabilities and your IE Browser security settings. Get the download here:
Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer

Choose MBSAsetup-EN.msi = (English Version) or the language appropriate for you.
