Recieved the following popup from Norton AntiVirus today:

Virus Alert
High Risk
Norton Antivirus has detected a virus on your computer
Object Name C:\Windows\system32\vtsqr.dll
Virus Name: Trojan.Vundo
Action Taken: Unable to repair this file

I clicked OK and the message remains the same except for the last line which changes to:
Action Taken: Unable to quarantine this file.

I visited the Symantec Web site and downloaded the removal tool for this virus. I ran it in both Normal mode and Safe Mode. Each time it said it did not find any intances of the virus.

I tried the manual instructions posted at the Symantec Web site. The full system scan found the file (vtsqr.dll) but could neither repair, quarantine, or delete the file.

However, the registry entries that the manual process says to remove do not appear to be there.

Hello poordad, Welcome to the forum. Before we start, I want to ask about this resource waster:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe Installed by aol usually without the users knowledge, if you do not use this item you may want to uninstall it in Add Remove Programs. Here is a little information.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

I suggest you clean the Prefetch, read the information link. If you can't see it use these instructions:

Click Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then OK. Allow the program to run and remove what Windows locates. Restart your computer and post the vundofix.txt and a new HJT log along with your comments. Does this take care of the problem.

I see Java needs and update. Start > Contol Panel > Java > update as soon as possible, this is a security issue.
