Hi,
2 days ago my xp pro dell machine became infected by viruses and popups from some game site my kids were on. I used trend micro's online scanner to clean which seemed to help somewhat but still had many popups. I did some checking on the net about prgms to prevent infection and came across this site. I saw some references about spybot so I installed it and it caught a lot more apparently bad prgms. I then read the post requirements and tried to run the Kaspersky online scan however I'm receiving a 002E08D9.key msg which is preventing the scan. Can someone provide guidance as to whether or not I'm still infected? I've attached the hjthis log.

Your log looks clean

There is an alternative online scan we can run to be more certain

Go here (http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner) to run an online scannner from ESET.
Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

It said it didnt find anything which is ok, but do you have any info on why kaspersky will not run anymore [(the file '002E08D9.key' on (unknown) is needed.] This always worked before and the computer was reformatted very recently to this build.

It is/was a bug in the Kaspersky online scanner & it it should be fixed soon

Are you having any problems?

No more trbl for this computer. Thanks for the Kaspersky update, I wasnt sure if malware was causing the problem. I do have one more question if its ok for you to continue help.
Due to all of this virus mess I checked my main computer as well and although kaspersky and fsecure came back with no malware found, fsecure did have a very strange exe with added keyboard characters listed under files not scanned.
The lines are as follows:
xy@�yRTPG\SETUPACC.EXE (on the first line-the square box after the at sign is actually a diamond with a question mark inside)

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\SUPERTECH\MY DOCUMENTS\ULTIMATE COMPUTER FILEGS*Jd (on the last line-the star represents the same diamond with a question mark inside)

Do you know if this is part of the fsecure scan protocol or something else?

It just means the file was in use when the F-secure scan was running
