Major malware problem

My desktop changed to black with the following in red: "Warning! Spyware threat has been detected on your PC...your computer has several fatal errors...unauthroized access was gained by another computer..." and so on.

Then I started to get messages from my tray saying my PC has been infected with spyware. The final blow came when my IE popped up unwanted with an ad to scan my PC for free PCSecruityLab.com.

After having a McAfee tech load and scan my PC with Spybot S&D, as well as install SmitFraudFix, but to no avail.

Anyone know of this problem and how to fix it?

I will follow your instructions and open a new post when I am finished running Kaspersky, Spybot (in safe mode), HijackThis, and provide the Kaspersky and HJT logs in the new post.

I hope I got that right.
