Forum: email notification

I'm glad that the Forum has email notification for replies: I do not have to check it every now and then.

I'm glad that the notification email also contains the text of the reply: I do not have to go the site to check the message (is it a solution, or someone with the same problem?).

I'm disappointed I have to login visit the site (or also the specific thread?) again, to get a new notification. This gives me more trouble: I still have to go to the site, and I even have to logon.

I guess this is introduced for very frequent threads, so people do not get a whole bunch of replies in their mailbox?
Would it be possibe to offer another choice:
- instant notification for each reply
- instant notification for first reply after logon
- daily update
- weekly update
