Help! I've been zlobbed :(. I have tried many things to get right of this damn system alert box in my task bar and nothing has worked. Spynomore removed a zlob but the pop up is still there. Adaware removed some things, smitfraudfix didn't remove it. Here are the logs, please help!

Hi

I'd like to see the Smitfraudfix report please ... you can find it here :-

C:\rapport.txt

THEN ...

Download Superantispyware.

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Once downloaded and installed update the definitions
and then run a full system scan quarantine what it finds!

* Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)

http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html

* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
o Close browsers before scanning.
o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
* To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
* Click Close to exit the program.

THEN ...

Please download Combofix: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Beta/ComboFix.exe
and save to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Notes:
* Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.
* Disable script blocking if you have NAV installed so it will not interfere with the fix. Trojan Hunter has been reported to detect combofix as Worm.Qiv.100.

Please remember to post :-

1. C:\rapport.txt file
2. SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log
3. C:\ComboFix.txt
4. a new hijackthis log.( run after everything else)

HI

Please go here and upload this file ...

c:\windows\system32\laf1.dll

http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

Click the browse button & browse to the file on your computer

Post back the results ... right click on the page > select all

right click again copy

post the results in your next post here...

Do not attempt to delete the file, if it turns out to be malware ... you will probably lose your internet connection if you do

---
THEN ...you have some registry entries to remove ... SmitFraudFix will remove them for you ...

1. Reboot into >>>safe mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)
2. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
3. Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infected files
4. You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection
5. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file
6. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt ... Post the contents of the C:\rapport.txt file in your next post here...

process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

so please post :-

1. the results from virustotal
2. C:\rapport.txt

Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.

Hi

Download and run lspfix

1. Download LSPfix from here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Save it to a folder on your computer.

2. Click the Lspfix.exe file

3. If there are any files in the "remove" side (other than the ones we are telling you to put there) make a note of their name, and exit the program with the X in the top right hand corner (do NOT click finish) - post back and tell us the name.... if not then continue ...

4. click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.

5. Check all instances of laf1.dll (and nothing else) , and move them to the "Remove" pane. (making sure that ONLY this file is in the remove pane.

6. click Finish.

7. Then find and delete the c:\windows\system\laf1.dll file.

-
Then we need to clean out your infected system restore points ...

This will clear all your infected restore points...

Turn off (Disable) System Restore in XP :-

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.

Then...

Turn on (enable) System Restore :-

Follow the same procedure, but this time uncheck Turn off System Restore

if you have any problem with this... here's a link to instructions :-

Disabling or enabling Windows XP System Restore >

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

-
Please then post a new hijackthis log & tell me if your problems are resolved ?

did you mean delete C:/windows/system32/laf.dll or C:/windows/system/laf.dll? Because there isn't a file in the second folder.

HI

I'm terribly sorry, it's a good job there isn't a legit laf.dll in the C:/windows/system folder ... I meant the C:/windows/system32/laf.dll ;)

But only delete it after you have run lspfix & removed the reference to the file from the winsock chain.

Hi

Now that your computer is clean it's a good idea to purge your system restore (going back to a saved restore point could put all the infections you had back)

Aye I already did that :). Thank you for all your help, you have been great! Do you have any other suggestions for me, other than staying away from untrusted Activex's? Lol.
