• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

Not had this problem before, but have had recent problems with Spyware Secure. Program just gets 'stuck' at that point.

Hello,

We need some more information.
Which version of Spybot-S&D are you running?
Do you have the latest updates installed?
Are you running any other anti-spyware tools?
Which operating system (Windows) are you running?

Hi
It's version 1.4 - it's up to date
I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 SP2
I had AVGAS installed, I had Norton, I have AD Aware and I had to buy Spware Doctor to get rid of some stuff which was not being found by anything else. (not sure if I was ripped off there but the things they found looked genuine)
I have uninstalled all of that except Spybot S&D and Ad Aware. I had Ad Aware running with Spybot always and never a problem.

NB I tried to run Ad-Aware today too and it also hung.

I have had terrible problems recently with popups - Spybot says it has removed Spyware Secure but still getting them.

Ok done that (sorry...thought it was done automatically when you updated!) - same problem - still not progressing past coolwwwsearch at all. Not a problem on my old Win 98 machine, so presumably I have something wrong with this computer.
I've unistalled it, downloaded it again and reinstalled it - can't kick this problem.

A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the

Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

* Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Bin are the only things checked.
* Press OK to remove them.

The problem may not be with Spybot itself but some condition being encountered while Spybot is scanning. Although it is long shot, I suggest you try running CHKDSK on your primary drive to make sure there are no file system errors that may be causing the problem.

  1. Open a command prompt.
    • Click Start then select Run…
    • Type "command" or "cmd" (no quotes).
    • Click "OK"
  2. Type "chkdsk x: /r" (type the command with no quotes and substituting the drive letter of the drive you want to scan for the "x:"). Note: Option /r : Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.
  3. If the following message appears:
    • Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
      • Type "Y" (no quotes).
      • Type "EXIT" (no quotes).
      • Reboot your system.
  4. If you did not get the message indicating that a reboot was required (3. above), type "EXIT" (no quotes) when Chkdsk completes.
  5. Note: CHKDSK may run for quite a while so just be patient.
For more information on CHKDSK see:

OK I've done that - it didn't find anything, but Spybot is actually running now.
It's taking *ages* - taken 1 hour to do just over half (it's only a 20gb disk)
