View Full Version : Cannot run any antivirus software

Hello!
I let my old folks 3 months on their PC and the result is a complete infection:) The bad part is that I cannut run Adaware (the program simply does not react). When I try to install other spyware removers, the install-packages do not react in any way when I double click them. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I have here the log of a HijackThis scan if that 's any use. I look forward to your replies!

This is the next step:

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. You are quite behind on your Windows Updates and Patches!!

The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Apply the update, reboot, then go to Windows Update and install all the Critical Updates (Note: Except for WinXP SP2)

After installing all the Patches and updates, reboot, then post a fresh Hijack This log.

Thanks for the advice.
Unfortunately I do not have a legitimate XP-copy. Hence, I seem to be unable to apply the upgrades you mentioned - would there be a way?
I guess that would make any further help irrelevant indeed - maybe this is the moment to switch to Linux.
