View Full Version : 1.5 let the whole world of spymaltrojporn in.
I downloaded 1.5 last night. After immunizing and during immunization, I was attacked by every trojan, piece of spyware, malware and pornware immaginable.
Webroot 5.5 was totally busy blocking what looks like every piece of bad siteology included in 1.5 trying to contact their website.
In the meantime, Norton was blocking high rated trojan and malware attacks on my computer.
Meanwhile, Zone Alarm was the busiest I have ever seen it blocking 100's of attacks per, minute, hour. I'm so busy plugging up the holes I will get the data for you when the dam is fixed.
I immediately uninstalled 1.5 but couldn't get rid of it and the attacks kept continuing.
I have finally had to re-install 1.5.
What on earth happened. I downloaded it from the main safer-networking site.
I'm really, really surprised. A review I read yesterday said the day of Spybot Search & Destroy was over because it was antiquated and tested horribly. So I went to the main site and low and behold there was the shiny new 1.5. I downloaded without the least bit of worry. Now, I am ?
Any suggestions?

Also, if you could indicate if this is the first time that you used Spybot or if you used prior releases of Spybot prior to 1.5 (Spybot 1.4 for example) as well as what facilities you used in those prior releases while running Webroot 5.5, Norton and Zone Alarm.

1.4 got along with everything, although I was shocked to see how the names of all the porn, mal, spy, key, etc., but finally figured out that SSD put them there.
Norton has all but been dormant other than the occasional email check, but since the install I have been attacked by all kinds of high threat trojans. I thought of getting something else this year for protection because I did not think Norton ever did anything. I was wrong.
Webroot 5.5 went absolutely nuts with warnings about websites that were calling home to mama from my computer. 1.4 and SpySweeper got along up until now.
Zone Alarm I have had right along with SSD for years and always got along, ZA was getting incoming and outgoing threats of high level. Again the sites included in SSD were trying to call home to mama. SpySweeper was also busy with changes being made to the security settings of IE. I have IE as shut off as I can get it with security at top level, no active x, etc. SpySweeper started going nuts with the websites contained in SSD again trying to get out to mama.
I have found as in the 1.4 version, CDilla, two instances with a checkmark to pass over them and another checked off in ignore products which means that they have been passed over for years and shame on me for not going through the ignore product list carefully.
Spyware Doctor was not bothered by the commotion at all. I know that people say the programs fight against one another but I've found all too often in my earlier days the product I depended on solely let all sorts of stuff in and out.
Everything seems to have settled down, but Perfect Disc showed the drive as a mess. It took a while for it to get everything back to order.
I hope it was all false positives, I will probably have a better idea tomorrow as today was spent fighting an imagined enemy if what you are saying is right.

Hello,
It seems that they mistakenly detect the immunization of Spybot - Search & Destroy. The immunization adds sites to the restricted zones in order to block them. So the baddies won't get in.

The fight between Safer and Symantec is over for me. I trusted Safer for many years. 1.5 unleashed it's fury and put all the baddies on my main drive. I haven't had a crash in years because of my backup system but SSD unleashed it's full fury yesterday and destroyed both my main and my backup.
It finally turned off Norton and put all the wares it suppose to protect from on to my disc. Norton fought the worms, Zone Alarn was working all the time and SpySweeper agreed somehow with SSD and I lost everything.
I just can not believe anyone would be that irresponsible without warning it's users.
When I called service, the internal buzzer kept beeping shortly after boot with a blank screen, the tech said he been working for 7 years as a CSR and never heard the buzzer with a constant beep, beep, beep.
SSD must have taken out bios and everything else connected to it. CSR said, minimum, power supply, motherboard plus anything that was connected to it at the time, drive, ram, etc, you get the picture, congratulations. From friend to enemy in one easy step.
I trusted Safer-Networking so much that I hooked up my backup drive, updated all the wares with Spybot last, it ended it's program and right from Safer Networking put every bug on my computer it was supposed to protect it from.
It's really not the equipment I will have to replace but the creative stuff I lost.
Shame.

Whatever happened to your PC, it's something very peculiar with it. Either your system was already infected, or your other security software caused such a mayhem.
I don't see how Spybot can crash your bios, motherboard, ram and drives. You're giving it waaay too much power. Now, if they steal your car (I hope not) it's Spybot's fault?
PS: what about having a CD/DVD backup of your things, if they are so valuable? Just a suggestion for the future.

It would have happened anyway. The front page says 1.4 is almost 1.5 because they have been upgrading right along now.
When I foolishly hooked up my clone to update all the software, all was completely normal. I got to SSD to update, it started, shut itself down and when I looked at the screen, the safer-network site was uploading all the crap in the world to my computer, I stopped that action and rebooted, same sound, and the clone drive also was gone.
I'm not snapping to judgment. I saw all the crap being uploaded to my hard drive after end program appeared. In the same box occupied by SSD, on the last line in the last box, I witnessed all the crap being uploaded, this is not a fairy tale.
I agree to backing up to dvd. However, I do music so I shouldn't be hooked up to the net anyway.
In my case, the last crash I had before I started cloning was two years ago. I am extremely a nall about the crap SSD uploaded, to the point where I might be too careful.
The problem with backing up just files which you will probably know, if you have extensively customized your computer and have a bunch of software, it takes quite sometime, 6 weeks in my case, 6-8 hours of sleep each night lost to get my computer back to normal. I prefer the clone system. I am up and running with the same efficiency in a few minutes, but for SSD to deliberately sabotage everyone's computer is a little whacky, isn't it.

This is merely a warning from someone who is completely over cautious to people who aren't.
Ok, since we do not install any malware and you've been spreading FUD all over the forum, I ask you to provide proof to all your accusations please!

It really sounds like SSD was downloading malware definitions, and some other software identified it as, well, malware!
What applications were you running at that time? Which one(s) warned you of what was happening?
Still, how can this lead to a device crash, I don't know.

If they have a problem with Norton Symantec and want them kicked out of the spyware union, hack their machines, not their loyal followers.
