Sorry I didn't explain with the first post. My browser kept dumping me out before I could finish, so I thought I'd start with the easy stuff, copy and paste.

My husband's computer was infected with a nasty virus McAfee couldn't automatically clean. He didn't know how to do some of the things McAfee suggested, so he went looking for something else to clean the virus and apparently loaded malware.

I cleaned the virus off his machine following McAfee instructions, which included disabling restore, running in safe mode, suspending some processes, and then running McAfee. His got rid of the 1st virus, but not the additional malware.

I downloaded Spybot S&D, which installed ok the first time. Ran it and it identified 87 items, which I let S&D fix. After reboot, the computer started acting strange again, multiple windows opening to some nasty web sites. Tried to run S&D again and got an "invalid floating point operation". Followed the instructions i "BEFORE you POST". The hijackthis log was my first post in this thread. I can now only run S&D in safe mode. Every time I run it, it finds several items and cleans them, then runs clean. When I reboot in regular mode, then go back in safe mode to run S&D the same items are found again.

Hello Momof3 and welcome to the Forums :)

YOu're infected

Please rename HijackThis.exe to skanneri.exe

At first you need to disable a few realtime protections. These may interfere with our cleaning process.
We'll enable these when you're clean...

Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection.
Open Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Exit the program.

Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, click on Tools
Then click on the Resident icon in the list
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a fresh HijackThis (skanneri.exe) log to here.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
