I have XP and ME on my computers and have found the new 1.5 to be balky and it seems to act like a resource hog. MY experience is that 1.4 ran much more smoothly. Can I continue to use 1.4, and if so, can I download it again from the Spybot site?

Thanks!! Lar

I thought that a little more info might be helpful. With my XP SP2 computer it takes about 20 seconds for the little "loading" bar to appear. Then the main screen appears with the vertical panel on the left and the bottom two main buttons (Recovery and Search for Updates) being clear (the desktop is visible) for about 30 seconds along with the presence of the hourglass pointer. When there are updates, the main screen is delayed about 15 seconds while the updater cycles out. Once everything settles down, it works fine. I am currently using v1.5.1.15. V1.4 didn't have these load-up hiccups. Thanks.

Hello,

We already have located the startup problems in Spybot S&D version 1.5 and fixed it:
http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=85
Here is the download file for the fix:
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/beta/SpybotSD.exe-1.5.1.16-2007-09-24-issues-76-78-79-84-85.zip
Please store the two containing files (spybotsd.exe and domains.sbs) in your Spybot folder.
Normally it is located here:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

The spybotsd.exe belongs to this path:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
The domains.sbs belongs to this one:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes

If you are asked if you want to override this files enter yes - this will make the changes.

This is the download link for the old version:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd14.exe

Best regards

Thanks Sandra. Figured that those updates would have been automatically downloaded as part of the updating process. All is good now. It still does the clear screen thing but now only for about 1 second. Thanks again.
