spybot/adaware probs

hi to all. new here...can anyone help?
i cant run spybot anymore or adaware..i've downloaded the latest versions, all to no avail...the recuring message i keep getting is ''invalid floating point error'' and from there it all turns to s**t..
any answers as to why this has happened all of a sudden?...or do i need to sacrifice my comp to the gods?
its sooooooooo frustrating....
