View Full Version : Deepdive,Smitfraud-C, and Microsoft Security
I will begin this post by stating I am very green in regards to fixing this problem. I contacted Norton and the tech explained I had Malware which would cost me $100 to have removed. I told him no thanks surely there has to be another way.
I have downloaded spybot and run at least 7 times today and it keeps saying that I have the same problems: Deepdive, Microsoft windows Security center disabled, and Smitfraud-C. I've run Microsoft malware software which didn't stop the problem either. Ran Norton full scan Internet Protection 3 times and nothing.
I attempted to run Kaspersky, but it keeps saying I am not the admin (which I am) and that the security needs to be at medium level which it is. I also have this huge red desktop background that overrides my screensaver and tells me I need to download their software. If someone out there could help me step by step it would be greatly appreciated. The pop-ups will not stop along with all the messages supposedly from microsoft.
I really need someone to help me through this process. Thank you so much in advance. I really need this system running properly.

Download and install TrendMicro HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe)
* Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled
Do a system scan only
* Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.
* Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read save log. Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad. Post the log here.
Thank you for your help. Each time I use spybot I keep getting Smitfraud-C, Microsoft disabled. Even after running HJT. I also need to know whether or not I need to continue denying the BHO notices. Or am I supposed to allow the changes. This morning my computer said Compaq unable to connect to .... Please advise.

Okay, let's see. Microsoft windows Security center disabled notification is normal when you have Norton Antivirus installed.
Disable Spybot's TeaTimer
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode
On the left hand side, click on Tools
Then click on the Resident icon in the list
Uncheck
Resident TeaTimer
and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer
Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update. Don't run AVG yet. Will do it a bit later.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.
Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on the Settings tab.
Under How to act?
Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
Under How to scan?
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Possibly unwanted software:
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Reports:
Don't select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
Under What to scan?
Select Scan every file.
Click on the Scan tab.
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan the machine.
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT : Don't click on the
Save Scan Report
button before you did hit the
Apply all Actions
button.
Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)

Save the report to your Desktop.

I'm sorry,but am I supposed to uncheck resident or resident tea timer too? And do I delete the other HJT logs saved to my desktop? Please advise so that I can do all that you have advised. Waiting on your reply.
My desktop background is red with icons and when I restart my computer prior to the login it says something like application error memory. And after logged in a message stated Compaq cannot connect .... I need to know for future reference if I need to accept or deny BHO changes in spybot.
Do I need to go back and check the "hide protected operating system...?"

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a RiskTool; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between good and malicious use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I need to know for future reference if I need to accept or deny BHO changes in spybot.
It's impossible to give only one answer to your question. It depends on what's trying to make the change. I think you should deny in cases which you don't know what's trying to change BHO.
I cannot run Smitfraud I keep getting this message after I double click on the SmitfraudFix.cmd icon. Then when I press any key nothing happens. Please advise.

Most likely your virus protection deleted process.exe file. Please turn your protection off, re-download Smitfraudfix.zip, extract it and try to run the fix again.
