I have been trying for months (about 4) to get rid of the dreaded "about blank page Malware.

I run Spybot Search&Destroy and I am told "MyWay-MyWebSearch is in memory & cannot be deleted until I restart my computer and run SpyBot again - which I do, but it still cannot delete it.

Every time I use the internet now I get the 'dreaded Blank Page' and nothing I do removes it. I have updated Virus Scan, SpyBot, etc. and I am at a loss as to why to try next.

Hi lindabedilia

Click here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe) to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/hijackthis/uninstall-man.jpg

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Hi

Does Symantec have antivirus and/or firewall?

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {9FB3908C-6565-4CB0-95F8-E9F85258723C} - (no file)
O23 - Service: My Web Search Service (MyWebSearchService) - MyWebSearch.com - C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwssvc.exe

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Delete this:

C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch

Empty Recycle Bin

Post back a fresh HijackThis log.

I did all the things that you recommended above, but when I restart my computer Spybot Search&Destroy gives me this message:

Associated files(MyWay-MyWebSearch) are still in use in memory and cannot be deleted. Would you like Spybot to run at Startup?

I say yes to this but it still cannot delete:MyWay-MyWebSearch even though I tried to do this on `restart` about 6 x now. I don`t know what else to do:eek:

Hi

", but when I restart my computer Spybot Search&Destroy gives me this message:

Associated files(MyWay-MyWebSearch) are still in use in memory and cannot be deleted. Would you like Spybot to run at Startup?"

Is TeaTimer still on?

I recommend to boot in safe mode and do the entire process instructed above there:

To get into the Windows Vista Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

After that boot to normal mode as usual.

Now success?
