ultimate defender problem

I have something where my background changes and popups for spyware protectors come up and my system keeps saying I am infected. I know these are all fake and I tried to clean the system with smitfraudfix which is what everywhere i'm reading says to use. the problem is that smitfraudfix wont work for me and it just opens a black cd window and closes it in like a second. I don't know what else to do.
