hi guys-
sorry - still pretty new at this...tried to follow the rules in the Before you Post forum.

i see that there is another forum on this already, but i was hoping you might be able to look at my stuff since the program may have different effects on my cpu than the other user.

i seem to have a SmitFraud problem.

i have tried to fix with Spybot and have created a HJT log. Those are the only steps i have taken as i could not get the Kaspersky log to work..

Here is the HJT file:

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Download: DelDomains (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf) and save it to the desktop.

Close all open windows and your browser
Right Click DelDomains.inf and select > Install
Reboot your computer

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Post the Combofix log , the Smitfraud log and a New HJT log please

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.

Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Remove these with HJT

"Ficihier Process.exe absent This is because you did not unzip it properly. If you look at my new post , you need all those 11 files to run Smitfraud properly.

If you need an unzipping program, you can download the free evaluation copy of Winzip.
http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Bitmaps/Folder.png

______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Bitmaps/Fix01b.jpg

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a RiskTool; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between good and malicious use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

Do this before you post a new HJT log please
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe<-- Right click on Hijackthis.exe ( looks like a man with a spyglass )and rename it to schmicker.exe

I would suggest at this point to uninstall winzip and winace and see if you can download and install Smitfraud and unzip it with the windows unzipper. You also may have gotten a bad download of Smitfraud, remove it all and try again.

schmicker,

Just some leftovers to fix.

Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Fix these with HJT.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
This is your call but Viewpoint installs with out your knowledge or consent, uses system resources and is not needed , you can uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel

It looks like you have some files ready to shred with Mcafee, your call to continue with that operation.

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

The rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb: Post a new HJT log and lets make sure everything that was supposed to be removed was.

Ken :)

Still with some problems. I get the error message:

Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying.

There is no need to install this update.

I also tried some fixes on the microsoft support pages but no dice.

how big of a problem is the old version of Java?

ken545
2007-10-11, 04:51
The old versions of Java will work but they are constantly updating it to patch holes that sometimes let this garbage in.

You can try this.

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system, you may or may not need the Windows XP CD. If you have a I386 folder on your C:\ drive you may not need the disk.

Click Start>Run
Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.

You can try posting in one of these windows fourms.

Windows Tech Support Forums

PcPitStop (http://pcpitstop.com/) <-- You can take your system in for a checkup here.
Bleeping Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum56.html) <--Good XP Forum
Windows Helpnet (http://www.windowsbbs.com/) <-- Excellent XP Forum
Hardwareguys (http://hwg.mazin.net/hardwareguys/hwgboard/ikonboard.cgi) <-- Another good one

Post one last log and lets see if anything came back

I am a little concerned over some files that showed up on your Combofix log, lets run this tool

Download VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 ) to your desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Let me see the Vundolog and a New HJT log please

Download Pocket Killbox (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Pocket_KillBox_d4709.html) to your desktop.

Highlight all the files with the complete path inside the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutr.dll

Open Pocket Killbox
Go to File > Paste from clipboard
Set it to Delete on Reboot
Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
Make sure ALL Files is selected
Click on the Red circle with the white X
It will ask you to confirm the deletion...Say yes
It will ask you to reboot, say yes

If you get a message "pending operations has been stopped by external process!" then reboot the computer manually.

Rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb: You might want to post in one of the windows forums for some help with your system.

Malware Complaints (http://malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
Tutorial for System Restore (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html) <-- Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.

Here are some free programs to install, these are must haves to help keep you secure

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Win Patrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html) This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give
you the option to deny the change.

IE-Spyad (http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=6640)
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
(cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Firefox 2.0 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Zone Alarm (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7228,00.asp) Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I
wouldn't access the internet without it.

Glad we could help

Safe Surfn
