Computer acting strangely, suspected viral infection or malware

i suspect i may have a virus...mcafee virus scan seems to disable itself after lauching the program but when i enable virus scan it says activeshield is currently protecting my computer despite indications to the contrary...i.e. the little mcafee icon in the system tray is black, not the normal red color. any assistance is greatly appreciated.

pardon the follow up message but i have corrected the mcafee problem but when i still suspect possible infection or malware in that when i start IE 6, while it downloads my homepage, often times another window pops up but disappears a second later before i can even determine what's in the window.

Sorry about the delay in getting to your topic.

Can you scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log please, so we can see where you stand at this point. There were quite a few problems seen in that first one you posted.
