Hi

Unfortunatly I have been infected with virtumonde and I am finding it almost imposible to get rid of. I have done several scans both in safe mode and normal mode. The last scan I did with spybot in safe mode, found nothing but when I went back into normal mode and did a scan...it reared its ugly head again.

I have done a scan in kaspersky and it wrongly thought my server files were a virus. I have removed the DNS name from the kaspersky log files and replaced them with DNS. Here is the kaspersky log:

Hackers hide this junk from HJT. Return here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HijackThis.exe, call it Neil_Anthony.exe or whatever you like. After a restart we may be able to see additional infection.

Let's do this for now:

AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, tell me about any symptoms of malware.

Hi Thank you for your reply. I have performed the requested actions and have done several scans and restarts and there is no sign of the infection.

However, on shutdown I get a svhost error message (0x77f83aed) saying that the memory could not be written. This was the error that caused me to perform several scans in the first place and was responsible for me finding the virtumonde parasite in my system. This may or may not be related...I dont know.

Also I get a blank entry in zone alarm program control...I am sure I removed it once already so to make sure I removed it and did a restart...and it seems to have stayed removed. Anyway, here is the resultant log:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback.
However, on shutdown I get a svhost error message (0x77f83aed) saying that the memory could not be written
Is there any more to that error message, when I Google this: 0x77f83aed I get this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Hi there

Thank you for all the additional information you posted...I shall be checking it out later today when I get home from work. I just need to clarify something before I delete the files.

I noticed that you have requested that I delete the server files. Now the question is, are these old files left over from the installation of apahe triad? I use apache regularly to build and test my webpages using localhost. Therefore, I need to keep my server on the PC and will removing these entires have any effect on the running of the server.
